That list of 15 coaching names for UT is misinformed with all of those coordinators and postion coaches named - there's no way UT will go that route. Currently there is a mind-blowing deal on the table for Gruden to take or not take - 6yrs/50mil for he and his staff - Gruden could end up around 6 mil a year himself. Personally, the longer this goes on without him jumping at the deal makes me wonder if he's the right guy. Supposedly he told Arky and their offer 'no thanks' yesterday.

But the good news is, the money is there to buy a home run. Big money has stepped up in a big way, the 6mil gift to academic scholarships is on hold for at least 3 years, and they're thinking they have a tax compromise on ticket sales in the bag. So if Gruden doesn't work out, we're going hard after Saban. (Okay, not really - but close.)

One name not on that list that should be there is Jim Mora Jr. If two or three of the biggest names fall through, he may be the one. He's done a helluva job in his one year at UCLA but he's not thrilled with the 35 - 50k attendance marks.

Jim Mora Jr.? Heh! Why the fuck would he leave LA for Knoxville after he's now the toast of the town? You guys are redonkulous with this shit. Gruden? Really? C'mon rednecks! Wake the fuck up already. You are paying like 3 ex coaches now already. Do you really have the cash for Gruden? Um, no. Put down the fairy dust.

What the hell is wrong with you guys?

Alright...

A new head coach has signed his contract with UT. $31+ million for 6 or 8 seasons (not sure which). This guy and his wife have faxed a transcript of their kids grades to a Christian school in Knoxville. He has purchased property to build a house. The coach will be announced on November 30.

UT's new head coach is... Jon Gruden.

I won't believe Gruden until I see him. Lots and lots of rumors, from the same people that thought Randy Shannon was coming etc etc etc etc.

Those same people with the rumors you are talking about Tick are the same ones that are saying the hang up is the english department not being willing to give up the control they have gained of athletics and Cheek not being willing to come off the checkbook.

I don't think anybody knows what is going on and it's all speculation.

BOJ, Cheek announced yesterday that the UTAD is suspending it's annual 6mil donation for academic scholarships for 3 years in order to help alleviate financial pressure on the football program. It's been in all the papers and on the color tv.

As a proud alumnus ('79) and a father of a '10 grad and a summer '13 future grad, I applaud any and all former, current, and future support for University of Tennessee academics regardless of the source. I trust you feel the same about your alma mater.

You're my age. I'm smarter and better looking, but you've obviously got all the money with your fancy-schmancy lawnmowers and $75 dinners.

Last I saw him he said "they didn't have a plan". At least they are trying to help. They should have been doing that already.

I support academics, but I don't support the policies they have had on the hill the last several years since bensel myers crap. From what I have read the english department (read academics) are still pissed off about that crazy woman and have been getting back ever since every chance they got including tying the hands of athletics at every opportunity.

I 100% agree with athletics helping to support academics, but while it's OK to for academics to stick that hand out when they are flourishing they should be willing to cut back when needed too instead of continuing to stick that hand out. Until now they have basically been thumbing their nose at athletics.

Looks like either Cheek has wised up or got his orders one of the two.

Should have happened before now.

Supposedly it was Gruden's agent (guy named LaMonte) who had power of atty and signed the MOU Tuesday. They may move the announcement up because it's blowing up everywhere.

No, Gruden's not an idiot. He's smart enough to realize that Tennessee's problems on D aren't Sunseri's fault.

Tick, is this info that you know personally or you know someone personally that wouldn't be yanking your chain? If so I would believe you.

If not then I'll believe it when I see it, just like all the Randy Shannon, previous Gruden rumors (remember he was supposed to be "hired" according to the rumor mill when Dooley was hired" etc.

Why would Tenn even consider Randy Shannon?

This was for DC I think back last year. My point was there were plenty of people saying he was a "done deal", and of course last coaching search there were people saying Gruden was a done deal before and we got Dooley.

I see lots of smoke about Gruden again, but until I see him accept the job (unless it were to come from someone like Tick that I would think would be honest) I will continue to see it as just that, smoke and rumor.

OK, yeah, he'd be fine as a DC. I wish we would fire Archer and either promote Tenuta or hire Shannon.
