Maryland's Athletic Department, after nearly two decades of Debby Yow's leadership, is deep in debt. The ACC's buyout is fifty million. I don't see how this happens without the Big 10 subsidizing the buyout/ensuing litigation.

If it's true they will probably assist in the legal challenge. No way Maryland ends up paying that much. No school has ever paid the full buyout from their respective conference. And they will probably argue that 1) Maryland voted against the buyout 2) It is extremely punitive and excessive.DooKSucks wrote:Maryland's Athletic Department, after nearly two decades of Debby Yow's leadership, is deep in debt. They voted against it but are members of the ACC, and, as such, are bound by decisions and rules that bind all members, even if they don't agree with said rules.

U*NC is the cleanest most honest athletic program on the planet. I am jealous of their deserved success, and I'm a mewling cunt.

So? I voted to elect Romney. I voted against President Obama's re-election but I was outvoted. So was Maryland. They must abide by the buyout. Rules are rules.Dr. Strangelove wrote:If it's true they will probably assist in the legal challenge. No way Maryland ends up paying that much. How much did Nebraska pay the Big-XII.
Kobe had to pay ex-wife $190,000,000. That was extremely punitive and excessive. So be it, he still had to pay it.Dr. Strangelove wrote:2) It is extremely punitive and excessive.
Maryland can leave. That will be $50,000,000. With $50 mil, the ACC can pay to build a brand new school to replace them.

We have a lot of laws in this country that are designed around the principal to preven the "fuck-and-run" scenario. The painful exit fee is one of them.

As far as I know, Maryland voted for this $50 mil. The vote went 10-2 (Clemson and FSU voting against it.) So..... they are going to have to come up with some big bucks.

And no school that's left a conference in the past 5 years has paid the full exit fee. Nebraska & Colorado didn't. A&M and Missouri didn't. West Virginia didn't. Pittsburgh and Syracuse aren't. Maryland won't either.
