But after years of fighting uphill at Massachusetts and Memphis, Calipari still tends to view Hoopsworld through the prism of the outsider battling against the Establishment. The problem with that: he's not at Massachusetts or Memphis, he's at Kentucky. And Kentucky is the Establishment right now, enjoying all the perks that come with that position – an ESPN all-access series, massive recruiting clout and, yes, the occasional favorable whistle.

It's an NBA rule isn't it? Much like the NFL 3 year rule. Baseball players either go straight to the minors out of high school or have to wait three years to be drafted out of college. That's the type of system I'm talking about with the caveat that if an athlete opts to attend college that the university still has a commitment to the athlete if he/'she gets injured never works out as a starter etc. Basically gives the athlete a real shot at a degree if it doesn't work out on the field.

i'm for the "baseball" rule as well. go pro or go to college outta h.s., but if you go to college it's for a 3 yr. committment. i'd also add a provision that would allow them to still go the college route if they go through the draft and end up undrafted or under-drafted

there is a fluff piece on Calipari at ESPN by Jason King.

but there is one quote in the article that says more than anything else why Kentucky is doing what it does

"Every starter -- and every sixth man -- that Cal has coached in Lexington has been drafted"

that is just crazy. no recruiter can compete with that - and so far, Cal has separated the trouble kids (Shabazz, Benahan, Sidney) from the ones that just show up and play ball. Kanter was his only risk to date.

I dont know if we went after Meeks. I suspect we were never in the running to be told "no". We did however get a commit from Anya
