We are already at spending that is equal to 27% of GDP. If the households that have an income of over 250K (annually) are expected to pay a higher percentage of their income OVER that 250K mark in Federal income taxes, that increase (no matter how large) will have no meaningful impact on the trillion dollars in defecits we are already running. No impact what-so-ever.

I don't think you are going to see too many people here at the PNN all upset about the wealthiest Americans paying more income taxes. Where people like myself get upset, is the fact that we are already paying so many income taxes to begin with! Even with all our deductions, one-fourth of ALL of my income and my wife's income disappears into federal income taxes. Tick, I have never called the police, never called the fire department, never received a dime of aid from government for education, never a penny of welfare, Social Security, disability, EBT, unemployment, anything, and I volunteer at my daughter's school (that I pay huge property taxes to fund.) I am happy to pay my taxes for a military that is second to none and wide flat highways that allow me to drive 85, but enough is enough. We have entirely too many entitlments that I will never be entitled to (but must pay for) so yeah, time to roll back some spending.

You can't "grow" yourself out of the hole we are in, not with our low birth rates (our very high bastard rate) and such early retirement at age 62. The moment you leave the workforce and go on government, YOU ARE A SINK. Whether or not you feel you are entitled to that Social Security check is irrelevant, you are now a financial sink, a drain on the those who labour to keep our nation going. And because we have so many of our children that are born bastards, they don't have the stable family home that tends to give them the morality necessary to continue funding such a large welfare state. Instead, the bastards are brought up learning how to GAME the system to get every penny, get every edge they can at the expense of "the other." What winds up happening is people no longer value marriage (marriage rates among minorities are deporable) and our prison population soars. That is where we are today.

Our church. And this very select market, the biggest problem it seems to have is motivating men to get their shit together and be marriage ready. Get a job. Keep a job until you find a better paying job. And get away from the X-Box and the free porn. That's a good way to win seats in congress or state governorships and legislatures (and it obviously works, moreso in the south than elsewhere), but it's not really a recipe to win the presidency. If the repubs want to exist as a party, they may have to give up any real hope of ever winning the presidency again and just be satisfied with the other branches of government (local and federal). The main downside to that is the repubs won't be able to nominate Sup. Court justices. They may be able to block dem nomiated candidates, but that's thin sauce...
