That's what I do now...

I've always had a data plan with Verizon, and my wife had unlimited text and phone. the kids piggybacked unlimited text and phone at 9.99 each. Worked out to about $135 a month, I think.

Wife says she wants data plan because she is getting an iphone 4s. Reasonable, enough. So, I go to the store and the nice salesperson, who never stays employed there the next time you come in, explains that with the new shared data by using my our phones as hotspots, I could pretty much do away with my dsl and I could also do away with my landline by adding an extra verizon line with the old landline phone number to your regular destop phone. Total should come to about $195. I asked how much data are we limited with the new pln? About 4G, he said. I said, how would I know if that is enough? It should be nough, but we'll let you try it until your next bill and you can change if it is not satisfactory. Ok, let's do it.

The phone hotspots actually worked pretty good except for the desktop phone. Then I get the next bill and have a $275 amount due. I look and see that we easily went over 4G for the month and it cost us $60 more. I go back to verizon and say I don't want the extra line for the desktop because the reception is poor. They say I had to cancel within 15 days. I said the salesman told me I could wait and see whether the plan works for me and then cancel. What was the name of your salesman, they asked. I don't know, check who rung us up in your system. He doesn't work here anymore. Dammit.

Needless to say, I'm paying for a line I don't need and it is cheaper to just piggyback my cable for home internet use. We realized we don't need the old landline number. No on calls us anymore on it.

I've got those blood suckers (Verizon) as well. Spend about $250 a month on 2 smartphones (mines unlimited & yes, even 4G sucks when it's available) & a flip phone for my youngest. The oldest just upgraded to an iPhone with a data plan. When we got it they said she would never reach her allotted data plan & if so it was only $10 per extra whatever per month. First bill she exceeded it by $60. Verizon is a joke. Can't wait to get out of it.

That's bullshit. Doesn't matter if the guy works there anymore or not, he was their representative when he told you that, I would have made them honor it...

they won't honour a conversation, at least on a recorded customer service call you can maybe track down the voice conversation. my cable/internet provider issues me a ticket# which tracks the calls made for that particular issue

otherwise he would need something in writing

Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

It's been about a year and a half now. Does anyone know how any of the other forums that tried to make a go of it elsewhere after the worldcrossing shut down are faring? I assume Dave's Cubs forum is still strong.
