Constantly reminding whites that they are racist, probably hurts more than helps racial unity.Owlman wrote:AP poll: Majority harbor prejudice against blacks

Anyway, let's see a survey of Blacks on what their feelings are about Whites, Latinos, Asians, or even Jews. I have never seen such a survey, but how do you honestly think that turns out. Same with Asians against whites, blacks, and Latinos. Truth is people naturally will be drawn and respect members of their own ethnicity before another. Not morally right, but that is natural. In spite of that, this country is the only white majority nation to ever elect a minority as their leader. If we are a racist nation, then all nations are racist.

Constant, as in once per year? Once per six months? Every 5 years? The study said the majority, not all whites. Some self-identify.Constantly reminding whites that they are racist

I think it's pretty plain that most blacks (at least the ones who vote) are homophobic, or at the very least don't feel that homos deserve the same civil rights as non homos. I've always been puzzled by that, considering what they've been through themselves....

Re: Florida State Seminoles
Like I said earlier on that topic. Blame the black church.
Out of the article, the professor at UCONN that was quoted (Jelani Cobb) went to undergrad with me and the NYC Assemblyman quoted (Hakeem Jefferies) is from my district. Yeah, I know, not a big deal, but I had to say it.
I don't quite get it on sardis' point, though. If people are queried and their responses point to direct or indirect racial bias, then it is somehow the fault of the group publicizing that result? Should they not have commissioned the study? Or is commissioning the study fine, but releasing the results of that study a problem?
You do make a good point about any studies done in reverse. I think you would find some racial bias showing up with other races. However, just by virtue of how lenders, merchants, police, politicians and individuals (of all races) treat white faces as opposed to ethnic faces, I think it may be safe to say that the racial prejudice numbers are not as high going in the opposite direction. There is a reason the concept of white privilege has never been seriously challenged in terms of the social currency that comes with having a white face.

Actually, I was shocked at the study. If I was asked, I would have bet just about anything that the percentage would have been about 15%. No way, I would have put it over 50.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
The purpose of the survey was not to improve race relations, but to remind those moderate voters who voted for Obama last time that if you don't vote for him this year it is because you have become more racist than 4 years ago. It tries to impose black guilt on these voters. No, this message is not once a year or once every 4 years. It's a constant message the Democratic party sends through the press that this election is about race when this election is really about socio-economics. Google this survey. It is on the front pages oof every newspaper yesterday. Every time a famous white person uses the term like "chuck and jive" and "boogie man" we are reminded how awful we are as a country. Even when I DARE challenge the premise of the survey, I somehow "self-identify" as a racist.
The problem is most of us whites now just roll our eyes at every accusation because we have been desensitized with so many of them. We know we have built in prejudices in us, but we do the best we know how to treat everyone fairly knowing that it will never be good enough. So, we just go on with our life, not worrying or wringing our hands about those things we can not control.

Yep, exactly why 95% of whites always vote for the white candidate when there is a black candidate running.sardis wrote:Constantly reminding whites that they are racist, probably hurts more than helps racial unity.Owlman wrote:AP poll: Majority harbor prejudice against blacks

Funny; I didn't read this in the article at all, and saw no evidence of this either.he purpose of the survey was not to improve race relations, but to remind those moderate voters who voted for Obama last time that if you don't vote for him this year it is because you have become more racist than 4 years ago.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
I think that was sarcasm, expressing sardis's bitterness that whites don't seem to be able to muster as much solidarity as a voting bloc as blacks and what a disadvantage that is for white candidates. Oh the disadvantages of being white in America, eh sardi? LMAO....

Re: Florida State Seminoles
The idea that Blacks will support someone at 90% just because they are Black doesn't really follow. Just ask Al Sharpton, Carol Moseley Braun. Neither could beat Clinton, not even in the South Carolina primary where 50% of the Democratic voters were Black. They do support the Dems at 90% (although they tend to vote in a less percentage than some other groups).
I thought the main purpose of the article is that things have gotter worse since the current President was elected as opposed to getting better.

6 states have bills to legalize marijuana. A local Dem politico said that it was a hope that this would help turn out the youth vote. I think he's mistaken, but then, I just don't know what motivates 20 year olds. http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/view ... eID=002481

Clinton was more or less black. Romney, OTOH, couldn't be more white if you dipped him in milk and rolled him in flour...
