McD's is good coffee. Dunkin has good coffee, too. Or used to.

I actually like DD's a little better than McD's...both are good. Starbuck's is bitter as hell. Probably turned their temp down to pacify all the looney libs...

Starbucks coffee sucks. I think most people go there just to be seen going there or to buy some of that fruity shit they sell.

Starbucks is a bit bitter. They brew to the proper temp, but their bean roasting process is not to my liking. It's specifically done a certain way for lattes and frappes and whatever. If you're a hot-black coffee drinker, it doesn't taste great, IMO.

They don't seem to have suffered much. McDonald's coffee sales have increased dramatically and are one of the biggest sellers of coffee worldwide. For example, they are the number one seller of coffee in the UK.
That's because they still serve their coffee 175-190 F. And with the UK the same type of law suit didn't win.
Nope. 155 degrees and still one of the top sellers of coffee in this country.

Incidentally, I am a firm believer that punitive damages should not go to the plaintiff and there should be a severe limit on attorney money (if any) from them.

I guess being number one in the bcs makes some people an expert on even the mundane things. Makes them want to 'pontificate' on proper brewing procedures, and how that matters to the la-dee-dah frappe-drinkers.

Tick,

I am a coffee enthusiast. One may even say that I am an expert, an aficionado.

Re: the coffee argument and proper brewing temps, I can cut and paste the experts who say that 190-200F is proper, but the proof, as they say, is in the pudding. Do this experiment forthwith:

1) take your French Press and prepare a pot of coffee using 190F water.

2) take your French Press and prepare a pot of coffee using 155F water

3) have your domestic pour one cup from each pot and bring them to you (make sure that she's not a doddering, coffee-dropping granny before you have her do this task).

4) with a clear palate, sample each cup and compare.

5) post your results here.

Coffee-snobs are worse than wine-snobs.

Get yourself some Nescafe or Sanka and STFU.

You don't get it. If you're buying dog shit coffee from McDonalds that usually means you also bought a bacon/sausage bagel/biscuit with that extra hash brown because not only will you eat that hashbrown, but it's got 2 Monopoly tabs as well. C'mon BOARDWALK!!!!!

I suppose this weekend you'll pack your fancy French press when you take to that ginormous Gatlinburg chateu.

Well. That's just FINE.

No difference between cheap/expensive coffee. Same as Beer.

Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

From the same Wikipedia site:

Liebeck's attorney, Reed Morgan, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America defend the lawsuit by claiming that McDonald's reduced the temperature of their coffee after the suit. Morgan has since brought other lawsuits against McDonald's over hot-coffee burns.[21] McDonald's policy today is to serve coffee between 80–90 °C (176–194 °F),[22] relying on more sternly-worded warnings on cups made of rigid foam to avoid future liability, though it continues to face lawsuits over hot coffee.[22][23] The Specialty Coffee Association supports improved packaging methods rather than lowering the temperature at which coffee is served.[21] The association has successfully aided the defense of subsequent coffee burn cases.[24]

JD,

Good is good and bad is bad. Sure, I can get a steak at Golden Corral, but it's not the same as a steak from Ruth's Chris or Morton's or Lawry's - at least to me.

Tick,

I shan't make the journey this year. I will be in Macon, Georgia for my brother's wedding. I do plan to watch the game at some place called "Cheddar's" with the other groomsmen after the wedding, though.
