Re: Florida State Seminoles
I just called a man named Steve Klein -- a self-described militant Christian activist in Riverside, California (whose actual business, he said, is in selling "hard-to-place home insurance"), who has been described in multiple media accounts as a consultant to the film.
Klein told me that Bacile, the producer of the film, is not Israeli, and most likely not Jewish, as has been reported, and that the name is, in fact, a pseudonym. He said he did not know "Bacile"'s real name. He said Bacile contacted him because he leads anti-Islam protests outside of mosques and schools, and because, he said, he is a Vietnam veteran and an expert on uncovering al Qaeda cells in California. "After 9/11 I went out to look for terror cells in California and found them, piece of cake. Sam found out about me. The Middle East Christian and Jewish communities trust me."
He said the man who identified himself as Bacile asked him to help make the anti-Muhammad film. When I asked him to describe Bacile, he said: "I don't know that much about him. I met him, I spoke to him for an hour. He's not Israeli, no. I can tell you this for sure, the State of Israel is not involved, Terry Jones (the radical Christian Quran-burning pastor) is not involved. His name is a pseudonym. All these Middle Eastern folks I work with have pseudonyms. I doubt he's Jewish. I would suspect this is a disinformation campaign."

He's Egyptian. The authorities have identified him as Nakoula Basseley Nakoula.

I agree with most everyone here. A stern letter and speech should do the trick.
Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

I spent the day with some Amish people (not as their guest, just in proximity of them). They speak this German/Dutch language that is fucked up. I am fascinated by those people. Their kids wear Nike and Skechers sneakers.I watched this one young girl who must have been about 10 constantly look over the shoulder of people who had cell phones and ipods. They also must not be able to read english well because they totally ignored the keep off the antique car signs. It was funny to watch them climb into these 1930's fully restored autos that were on display behind a velvet rope line and pretend to drive them.

"They speak this German/Dutch language that is fucked up."
From Blood Meridian:
"He speaks dutch, said the expriest.
Dutch?
Aye.
The kid looked at the expriest, he bent to his mending.
He does for I heard him do it. We cut a parcel of crazy pilgrims down off the Llano
and the old man in the lead of them he spoke right up in dutch like we were all of us
in dutchland and the judge give him right back. Glanton come near fallin off his horse.
We none of us knew him to speak it. Asked where he'd learned it you know what he
said?
What did he say.
Said off a dutchman."

Re: Florida State Seminoles
That was not Romney's first statement. The U.S Embassy in Cairo issued a statement “condemn(ing) the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims” — referring to the anti-Muslim movie allegedly inflaming the demonstrators, rioters, and attackers — but that statement was issued before the attacks on the diplomatic missions."I'm outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi," Romney said in the statement. "It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."
Romney response which was written about 10:30 but initially was delayed to 12:01 so as to not be on 9/11 was “It’s disgraceful that the Obama administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”
Jumped the gun with inadequate information and wrongly attributed the statement, got the time and the events wrong and then misrepresented the statement as an apology. Or perhaps I'm wrong on this and Romney actually supports misguided individuals efforts to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims?
My Dad is my hero still.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
Romney saying a president sympathizes with people who want to kill us takes some pretty big balls.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
Romney's response was written before 10:30pm, well before, but they did decide to delay until 12:01am to comply with the 9/11 moratorium. He couldn't wait and his Press Aide sent the release out via email at 10:09pm. It was a huge blunder by Romney...even Ryan won't stand behind it.Owlman wrote:That was not Romney's first statement. Amish
Their kids don't have to "accept" the Amish way of life until adulthood (17 or 18). Right before they turn that age they go completely buck wild and drink beer, drive cars and whatever else the "English" (that's us) do that the Amish do not. It's an interesting component of them. I do know that the rate of sexual abuse in the community is out of control, but the "English" authorities rarely intervene in their legal matters. The Amish have their own court systems that they deal with. The State Police of Ohio and Pennsylvania leave them pretty much alone...unless they go totally bonkers (not like rape isn't, but they just don't press it because mose Amish women will not talk to the authorities). There was a group of Amish burgulars or some shit like that who just got arrested recently, but rarely do you see them listed in crime blotters. It's sort of like the Hasidic Jewish community. They don't really deal with our court system.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
I haven't seen this level of hatred since 9/11.
Its not 9/11 ish hatred but its definitely up the scale above the normal Al-Qaeda hatred.
