"I could retort to that, but I decided to look up Aliceville, Alabama instead. It would seem it served as a WWII POW camp for captured Nazis? "

Crossville Tennessee also had a German POW camp. It was called Jap Camp for some reason. I heard there was one Jap interned there but the rest were Germans. One escape. Anyway, the road were the camp was was named Jap Camp Road until about 10 years ago when PC got to someone and they renamed it POW Camp Road. I guess with all the Jap companies moving to TN, they hoped they might get some of that bidness.

I didn't know about Aliceville's POW history. Interesting. It's an ideal place to lock people up because the living conditions are better inside the fence than out. The inmates won't want to escape.

Check out these stats:
The median income for a household in the city was $17,092, and the median income for a family was $23,233. Males had a median income of $25,114 versus $15,952 for females. The per capita income for the city was $11,028. About 38.7% of families and 44.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 64.6% of those under age 18 and 29.9% of those age 65 or over.

Estimated median house or condo value in 2009: $63,808 (it was $54,200 in 2000)

Mean prices in 2009: All housing units: $68,700; Detached houses: $80,993; In 2-unit structures: $80,980; In 3-to-4-unit structures: $102,575; Mobile homes: $27,954

Median gross rent in 2009: $299.
Eutaw, huh? I'll check it out. I did stop at that Everhope Plantation just across the interstate. The proximity to the interstate and Atlanta is a plus. It's only about 30 minutes from the joint.

I didn't see Columbus. The USAF base there is a plus for me, where I can use my retiree ID to use the PX, Commissary, Officer's Club, etc. But I'm keeping an open mind.

There is a monastary of nuns there who are a hoot. Bring whiskey and a donation. They like both. And they do a lot of good for the area.

There's also an Orthodox church in Moundville.

Being close to an interstate is huge. Also, the hospital in Columbus is horrible. In Eutaw you could go to DCH.

Our Sunday School had retreats at the Crossville camp up to about 15 years ago - it was still a 4H Camp the last I heard. They, uh, kept it historicaaly correct...we had a few escapes ourselves.

I'm a little leerie about going to a hospital in Tuscaloosa. If they find out I'm an Auburn grad/fan, they might put me under general anesthesia and teabag me on you tube.

They could schedule some games in Tiajuana, but that would basically be like a home game...

Tick,

UT owns the camp now. I ride past there on Taylors Chapel Rd. every now and then.

Why would UT buy an old POW camp? Don't they already have enough outhouses?

Have you seen Neyland Stadium lately? AA would say their rest rooms are less than pristine...

Glad you mentioned that. It's about time for AA's annual preview of SEC stadium lavatoria.
