Re: Baseball
In honor of aTm, the Chipper love continues....
This year, Chipper leads the Braves in BA (.320), OBP (.396), SLG (.516), OPS (.912), and is 2nd in OWAR (2.4). I truly hate that he only has 50-odd games left to play in a Braves uni. I know he's 40 and isn't as durable, but maybe he could go another year without becoming another Steve Carlton.

Re: Baseball
Doesn't matter whether it was purposeful or not, McCutchen should have charged the mound or a pitcher should have retaliated later in the series. The ump made it difficult to do it in game 2 so I was hoping for possibly in game 3. I thought when A.J. had the lead in the ninth and was behind 3-1 to the batter with 2 outs, he should have just let one fly in on the wrists/elbow instead of worrying about his complete game.Jungle Rat wrote:I really hope Pirate fans & players really don't think Chapman actually hit McCluckin on purpose. So far he's been an easy out for the Reds. It's been 20 years guys. Pace yourselves.

Re: Baseball
Now, back to the Braves Channel: All Braves, all the time!
Weak points:
(1) SS. We miss Simmons terribly - hopefully, the finger heals quickly and he can step back in later this month because Janish is a joke and while Pastornicky has a bit more upside, he's not setting the world on fire either. Fredi seems in love with Janish, though, and if he starts over Simmons after he gets off the DL, I'm driving to Atlanta to kick his ass.
(2) Starting pitching: Mike Minor is horrible. Hanson isn't much better. The rest are decent to average.
(3) Team OBP is a decent 9th in baseball, but we're 18th in homers and 16th in SLG. That lack of power was okay in 1990's with Maddux, Smoltz, and Glavine, but those guys are gone. We need bigger bats or better pitching - preferably both. Neither = a flameout (see: Braves, August 2011).
(4) Fredi manages line-ups about as poorly as any MLB skipper of all time.
(5) Uggla. leads the team in strike outs, has a .209 BA and a SLG of .360 - .360? And he was our hope for power?
Strong points:
(1) Chipper.
(2) Don Sutton.

Re: Baseball
Wrong. This is year 1 after 20 losing seasons that the Pirates are actually relevant in August. You want your best player charging the mound and risk a suspension of 7-10 games? Plus others who leave the bench? The Reds had the upper hand because they have the lead. ANd they had the swaggar of winning 22 of 25, best since 1890. Like I said, pace yourself Pirate fans. You aren't going away for many years, you've got a great foundation and I look forward to our rivalry for years to come. This ain't football.sardis wrote:Doesn't matter whether it was purposeful or not, McCutchen should have charged the mound or a pitcher should have retaliated later in the series. Re: Baseball
He wouldn't have been suspended for retaliating to that. Ejected from game, yes, but no one is going to fault him after a beaning to the head.

He was hit in the shoulder & charging the mound gets you 6 games at minimum. C'mon now Homer.sardis wrote:He wouldn't have been suspended for retaliating to that. Ejected from game, yes, but no one is going to fault him after a beaning to the head.

Re: Baseball
Don't want your star charging the mound. Even if there is no suspension, you run the risk of someone going Nolan Ryan on him. Much better to have your pitcher plunk their star his next at-bat.

Reds needs Joey back. They've gone on a tear without him, but now the offense is sputtering and the odds are catching up with them.

Re: Baseball
Arroyo was their problem last night
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.
