I read this and liked it. Always fun to trash the French. I researched it and really did happen but Rusk was put up to it by LBJ.

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when
DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US
Military out of France as soon as possible.
Rusk responded,"Does that include those who are buried here?"
DeGaulle did not respond.
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

They need a tracking system for the purchase of guns & ammo much like they now track meth products. I'm all for gun ownership but not for owning an assault rifle that spews 100 shots in a minute. It only serves a purpose in war.

Interesting. Honest question: What do you do with the info that you're tracking? How does tracking it help? Has tracking pseudophed stopped meth issues?

And I've never tried, but I bet I could come pretty close to shooting one hundred rounds in a minute with my .40 cal. pistol. It would involve having the clips pre loaded and lined up but that's no big deal.

When you give a 24 year old $26,000 in cash, you do so at your risk...

I couldn't squeeze off a hundred rounds in 60 seconds. Never tried but, shit, I get cramps along my right forearm playing too many rounds of that basketball shooting game at Dave and Busters.

Buying and reselling guns is way too easy in this country. I don't know the best way to address it, but I do think something is needed. I definitely do not see the need for assault weapons.

My 40 cal sings. It has a very light trigger pull and you can empty a clip in a few seconds without too much effort. Drop a clip and repeat x 5 would be an an interesting challenge. I don't have 5 clips, though.

Tracking private sales, Bklyn? As in register all guns and mandate that people have registration that they transfer when they sell (like with cars)?

The issue there is that we currently have about 20 million unregistered weapons now, with no way to ensure compliance. It might be helpful years down the road, though; however, some would sell a weapon for a premium and report it as stolen to keep the sale off the books.

I'm not going to beat the second amendment drum, but its pretty clear that the purpose of the Second Amendment was to ensure that individuals had the right to keep and bear firearms suitable to militia use, for our nation was founded upon the belief that a citizen militia was "necessary to the security of a free state.
This is correct. The second Amendment says, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

And who head of the militia? From Article II of the Constitution: "The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States."

You don't create a militia to protect the people from the government only to make the Commander of the militia's the head of that very same government. The forefathers didn't think of the militias as a protection from this government which had Constitutional limitations but from foreign invadert.

Both Kennedy and Eisenhower nationalized the national guard to go against the will of state government. Eisenhower did so after after Ark. Gov. Faubus had originally called out the national guard to prevent intergration at Central High School.

I would think that the quantity he bought in the time frame he bought would set off some warning sign if it was tracked. Why would someone by thousands of rounds in 3 months? Plus 4 different guns. For a picnic?

Rat,

I'm with you. Some follow-up questions: Okay, it sets off a warning. Other than funding issues (who tracks the purchases and hunts folks down?), let's say that he says he tells whatever department we anoint to watch over ammo purchases that he plans to take up competitive shooting. It's a hobby. He shows the authorities his shooting range membership. What then? Arrest him? Tell him to pick another hobby? How many people would this have stopped historically? How many crazies have bought 5000 rounds? Is what he did (buy 5000 rounds) common enough to make this a good use of resources?

Don't know how many, but visiting him could have reasonably prevented this action, if what they say about his apartment is true.

And re: Meth. I heard its use was increasing after a brief lull. That most of the meth is coming from Mexico.

He would not have his apartment booby-trapped in advance of the event. Apparently he rigged it before he left and had to crawl out of the window to get out. Anyway, but let's go with that: Let's say he DID have it booby-trapped and wouldn't open the door. Would buying ammo be grounds for a search warrant?

Depends on how the law is written. It's like transferring over $5000 in the bank automatically gets reported. It's the pattern of the transfers that make the difference
