Re: College Football
I don't know anyone else that has been a Gray Shirt -- which basically is deferring him a year, but unlike a RedShirt, he's on his own and isn't enrolled in school or with the team. He sits out of school entirely until January, then begins school and gets to work out with the team. If they then decide to redshirt him, he is still able to get his four years of football in five years, but would sit out TWO actual seasons on the field, I'm hoping that's the selling point that breaks his will.

Also, like most people around here, he has no grasp on the fact that UC and the Big East in general are a mere Notre Dame announcement from being completely locked out of any "BCS" type level discussion and relegated to MAC status anyway. Hell, the MAC might get more teams bowl-eligible than that gaggle of garbage the Big East has become.

I actually meant the other way - someone that went to a "smaller" school and had more exposure, playing time, poontang, etc.,Bluecat wrote:I don't know anyone else that has been a Gray Shirt -- which basically is deferring him a year, but unlike a RedShirt, he's on his own and isn't enrolled in school or with the team. Personally I'd look at the scholarships and just break it down to who has the most to offer - facilities, how serious they are about him getting an education, how they treat their players during away games, national coverage and coaching success.
I can see the allure of getting a letter from a solid football school but the way they castaway players in football that don't produce, I'd sell him on being a big fish in a small pond.
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Re: College Football
That is the process we went through and he had decided on Ball State -- mainly for the relationship he had built with their WR coach but also the campus, facilities, strength coach/program and being the big fish in small pond. Was going to verbally commit this morning and got the text last night from Butch Jones asking him to call and offered the Gray Shirt scholly. Monkey wrench thrown into the process -- especially considering the Ball St. offer and other MAC offers won't be there for much longer. BG gave him a deadline of today, saying two more WRs were visiting from Detroit today and they were only taking one more in the '13 recruiting class. The worst thing about it is his Dad has stars in his eyes and is pushing UC. Says the boy's stats are similar to A.J. Green's. He's high as a kite (probably literally, dude's an on-again, off-again Alky) but the kid loves his Dad and wants to impress him.
Who knows, UC might be the best choice, but my gut tells me he's pissing away an opportunity for a great college career on the slim chance that he will be UC's No. 3 or 4 receiver his junior and senior year.

6-4, 200, 4.39?
Skillet hands? Otherwise, why isn't a big school looking at him?

Re: College Football
He ran between a 4.6 and 4.7 last fall and winter. Spent the spring working out and just three weeks ago at a couple of camps broke out the 4.4 40s. He actually has great hands, catches everything. Also, he hasn't met NCAA Clearinghouse standards yet, but will (should) by end of 1st semester, He has the minimum ACT score (bare minimum) and carries a 2.46 GPA (needs a 2.50).
Nobody knows about him. BG's head coach told us Monday that he's only seen a few kids come on the recruiting scene that fast, that late. Clawson(?) was his name. Was on Fulmer's staff his final year at UT (two years ago?) Or was that with Kiffin?

Also, he's white. When he was still running in the 4.6 range, UC's recruiting coordinator actually told him he was the wrong color.

Re: College Football
hookers and blowAny advice on how to steer him back towards his choice of Ball State (where I think he would be happiest), Bowling Green, Akron or Eastern Michigan?
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Is hookers and blow what bgtc means, or just your take on why he's small school material, aggie?

Re: College Football
Isnt Akron where Terry Bowden and Chuck Amato are slumming around these days? Seems like it could be an attractive program if those guys are working hard.

Re: College Football
Yes it is. They were actually the first to offer the kid a scholarship. The coaching staff is the main attraction -- team was 1-11 last year and the campus sucks

Perhaps the kid could commute from Cuyahoga Falls.

Re: College Football
BGTC is an abbreviation I started about ten years back. Stands for, 'Bad Grades; Team Cancer.' Some on the SEC board would try to find fault with a recruit acquired by another school. They would usually pick one or more of the following: Too slow, in trouble with the law, would never get playing time at my school, too weak, too fat, out of shape, bad grades, team cancer.

Re: College Football
Speaking of zippy, theres a guy from Akron, that runs a blog called Chubster. I have also seen an mmciz post on craft beer websites that I am convinced is/was him. I am not sure if chubster guy is the same as the beer guy.

Craft beer guy was from Arizona and chubster guy was previously involved in some music stuff in phoenix before now. All the same guy (and all zippy) I think.

Re: College Football
The average NFL career is like 3-1/2 years. If a MAC school offered my son a full ride but UC made me pay to play Id go MAC in a heartbeat. Odds are he's not making the NFL and even if he does it's a short stay. Education wise and future wise Id go with the MAC schools. Is Miami involved at all. That would be the best.
If he hates school and his whole focus is on football then give UC a shot. He's a kid. He can always transfer as long as he keeps his nose clean.
