Re: Tennessee Volunteers
On Mike and Mike they said the NCAA is going to be taking bids from venues for the championship game, so the market will figure that stuff out. If enough people will travel to the Rose Bowl, they'll bid on it. If, as I suspect will happen, it's going to be at least one team from the SEC most every year, the Superdome in New Orleans will be bidding on it every year. Even if it's in Dallas or some such, they'll probably fill it up...
I want someone's ass blistered in the middle of Thanksgiving Square.

Atlanta would be a big player in that scenario.
I proudly took AFAM 040 at Carolina.

Indy.
Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
Jerryworld in Dallas would indeed be a strong contender for the midwest.
The Georgia Dome would be a better southeastern venue than the Superdome. NOLA has better food and prostitutes, but Atlanta is a much bigger city with better infrastructure. Visitors are equally likely to be murdered in both cities.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
I got Lindy's Sports SEC Preview while at the store the other day. I thought I would share some highlights.
On primary strengths for the Vols the article states:
On potential problems the article states:
The article states 80% of the new 3-4 alignment scheme was implemented during the spring. Everyone seems to like it and the players are responding well to it. However, it is believed, despite having great athletes on defense, we don't have the big, tough players to run it properly this season. Ultimately, the defense isn't going to get it done.
The key to this season will be the offense. In order for us to have a chance, they will have get on the field, stay on the field to keep the ball out of opposing team's hands while letting our defense rest, and score. The article states we are among the better offenses in the SEC this year with a good chance we will be the best. The quesion mark lies with the offensive line. Can they open up holes to open up lanes so we can generate a running game while protecting the QB during passing downs? On paper they are solid but they need to show it on the field.
Looking at the team, it appears 8 wins is possible when taking into account our shitty OC schedule. The bad thing is we may not pick up an SEC win until we hit the Vandy & KY part of our schedule. However, FL looks like a game we could sneak away with.
On primary strengths for the Vols the article states:
The comment about us having the best receiving corp caught my attention. I wonder if that will still be true when DaRick gets kicked off the team? A the rate the dumbass is going it can happen at any second now.Passing game. No SEC team has more talented receivers, and Bray is one of the SEC's elite quarterbacks. The offenseive line - under achievers in recent years - should be ready to emerge. On defense, UT has quality linebackers in Johnson, Maggitt and Herman Lathers.
On potential problems the article states:
The article points out we had the 28th ranked defense last season. On paper, that is not bad. However, as Dooley is quoted in the article, he points out our defense "didn't affect the game enough". We had few sacks, gave up short yardage plays, and forced few turnovers. We need to affect the game more, particularly in critical points during the game. The run game was the worst at UT since 1964, averaging 2.8 yards per carry, and Tauren Poole, a 1,000-yard rusher in 2010, is gone. The Vols might not have the personnel to run a 3-4 defense, and the secondary, despite plenty of athletes, hasn't jelled in years. Another concern: overall leadership.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
I do feel for the players in this. It sucks they do everything right and they may as well not even play. But, that happens when those in authority don't do their jobs. Hopefully, everyone will remember the pain of this and not allow this to happen again.
I wonder if they have any quality players who would be interested in comming here? All current and new players comming in have been given permission to leave.

And while I'm thinking about it... I wonder what will become of the assistant who did turn Sandusky in? The guy did nothing wrong and everything right. He's out of a job at this point in time, right? I feel for him.

The REC's black ops unit will now get right to work setting up Bobby Bowden to forfeit a lot of HIS career victories.
Alonzo Stagg ain't safe either.

I didn't think the NCAA COULD come down on PSU like that. Not that I feel a huge amount of sympathy for them...but 4 years? And all the players have the green light to transfer...jeez.
Wonder if this will spur more talk of the super conferences moving outside of the NCAA.

Actually I was imagining deregulation wrt members tempted to pass out [more] SUVs and cash...not the one caught handing out lollipops. So much for my foray into 'less gubment' - heh.

The length of time and scholies doesn't suprise me. However, I had no idea the NCAA could slap a monetary based penalty on a school. $60 million. Wow. The Big Ten piled on more to the NCAA's penalties: Penn State doesn't get to share in the conferences bowl proceeds during the probation period.
Sucks to be them.
Wait a second. No it doesn't. They deserved it.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
Before I forget, I read the NCAA did consider and wanted to hand down the death penalty instead of doing probation. It turns out the NCAA can't hand out the death penalty unless the school is already under punishment and repeats what they did. Since Penn State wasn't being punished for anything, they couldn't hand them the death penalty. Interesting.

I think PSU should permanently store Paterno's statue in Sandusky's showers.

The death penalty would have been a blessing for Penn State.
