ok, fuck me. I got hit with a virus. I ran malwarebytes and superantispyware. now when I try to open a program the "open with" box pulls up asking me what application I want to use to open a .exe file. if I right click on the icon and select "run as" and select "current user, the application will run. this is on xp. how do I fix this? TIA!

Do you have System Restored enabled in Windows XP? If so, you can restore the system back to a couple of days before you got the virus. You will not lose any data like pics and vids but any programs you installed might need to be done.

You can also try creating another user so you have two profiles. Try using the same stuff in the new profile to see if you get the same error. If you don't, then copy the files, pics, docs, and such over to the new profile and use it.

If none of that works, then in the great words of the dude in Braveheart during the battle "My god says he can save me but he's pretty sure your fucked."
