The trick is to drink enough to thoroughly enjoy the walk across the city... but not so much that you think joining the Bare to Breakers is a good idea.

Okay. You're particular about rum. Whereas most of your brethren are content with a good lawn chair and a Natty light.

It's one thing to drink, but another thing al together to have a thread about it.

It's a useful forum at times, Red Bird. People run across things they particularly like and tend to want to share it. puterbac turned me on to Widmar's hefe once...now I'm kind of a wheat beer fanatic. Although I made the mistake of getting sentimental about a particular raspberry wheat an-- ..ah, but I digress.
As for drinking quiet...apparently you and AA got crossways on the subject of beer...I hope your reticence didn't spring from that unfortunate experience.

Re: 2011 Beer and Liquor Thread (formerly Volmillion's)
bluetick,
My previous comment here was intended as a joke.
I am hardy capable of "drinking quite" and I hardly expect others to keep their preferences secret. Honestly, I hope no one took offense, but I often operate under the false assumption that I'm really funny and people will always know when I'm kidding.
About beer: I'm not what you would call discriminating about beer. I don't doubt that some people have very refined taste for beer or wine or even cheese, but I don't. To me, one beer is about as good as another. I don't mean to say that all beer tastes alike, as AA mistakenly claims, but rather that the difference is generally to small for me to care about.
I consider my dull taste buds lucky for they save me a lot of money.
About AA: I often make comments that are meant to challenge people's notions about the world and the way the act or think. I have strong suspicions that many people drink expensive beer for reasons other than taste. In my view, many people see their choice of beer as a statement about their status; their self image as sophisticated, well turned out individuals is supported by their choice of a "premium" beer. For example, it would hardly do for a man who has a degree from Yale and a job as an investment banker to go to some swanky club and order a Natural Light. In short, for many people, the choice of an expensive beer, or wine etc. isn't really about the taste, it's about their self image.
Now, I don't expect everyone to agree with me. I merely want to make people think about . . well about how they think.
However, some people really get pissed (pun) when you challenge the way they think about why the chose to drink a particular beer. In fairness to AA, when this debate took place months ago on another forum, I did not chose my language as carefully as I am wording this post. I probably did leave out many qualifiers like "many" during that debate.

No doubt it was a misunderstanding. Plus it's no secret that poor AA's irishness bedevils him and leads him to drink hard and pick fights on the intraweb. Don't let it weigh you down.

Re: 2011 Beer and Liquor Thread (formerly Volmillion's)
It was no misunderstanding. She is lying - out and out - and it's not the first time. She feels she can rewrite history because of Wxing closing and a the resulting lack of "proof". Proof, however, is not needed, because I know what she said and I do not feel obligated to prove to myself that which I already know. If need be, I could produce witnesses who read what she wrote, but I will not. It's not worth it. There is no profit in it. She knows she's a liar and I know she's is a liar. I honestly do not believe she has an inkling of her obvious psychosis, however. Regardless, this is a fool's errand. You cannot fix crazy especially a crazy who also is a pathological liar. Spend time engaging her only if you have more time than wisdom.

Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.
