"Some at the theater last night were upset that they didn't translate into modern English. One guy sitting behind me angrily said to his woman, "I cain't un'erstan' a gottdamn thang they're sayin'."

Ironically enough, Olde English (with all the ye's and yaw's and ya'lls) is probably much closer to Alabamian/Kentuckian "english" than what most people in America actually speak. That's right, the average Possum Gulch redneck probably has more in common with Hamlet than some fancy pants New Yorrick City literary faggot does. He talks funny, believes in ghosts, and is ready to whip somebody's ass, but in the end, he sits around on his aiiiissss all day doing nothing, king of a nutshell....

I love how you include Alabama and Kentucky but leave out the Hilljacks of North Cackalacky.

Weak attempt. Give it a 5/10.

I never could get into Benny Hill like my friends did back in the early 80s. I could never understand that fucker.

Brit humor (esp. Monty Python) is extremely dry. It's not my type of party either. I loved Benny Hill, as a child, simply because the censors in the US neglected to pay attention to the occasional nudity on the show.

Tonight

I watched the movie "Source Code" on cable. The ending was a little crappy, but overall I enjoyed the movie. Well done, overall, though I was having flashbacks to undergraduate philosophy class.

Some english comedy is dry, but Monty Python and Bennie Hill were borderline slapstick most of the time...

 That was great commentary by Chappelle.

I remember the story about the kid wrestling and kid the younger boy. I never followed up on it but I never considered he'd be tried as an adult.

Since it's a slow time, figured I'd throw a topic of discussion out there.

I have two years left before my youngest heads off to college. Obviously, there are many things still to do, but one of the things I'd like to do is send her off with at least a semblance of an appreciation for our history. In addition to the obligatory historical trips (already been to D.C., seen the oswald/jfk museum in Dallas, want to get to Rushmore within next two years, etc.), we've shared a love of movies over the years but it's always been contemporary flicks. Rarely can I get her to sit through an "oldie". But, I want to at least have her see the "classics" before she leaves for college.

So.....what would you guys say are the Top 10 Must-See films that encompass the History of Cinema. (Star Wars, Raiders, Wizard of Oz, stuff like that she's seen. I'm talking more mature films that a kid never sees and wouldn't appreciate anyway).

1. Casablanca
2. The Godfather

Those two are automatic. The rest is up to debate....any suggestions?
