Texas is not paying $30,000,000 to ANYONE (not the ACC, not anyone) to grab a school, or $60,000,000 to grab two schools. Why in the blue fuck would they do that? They just bid farewell to A&M, you think they are going to put themselves on the hook for $30,000,000?Dr. Strangelove wrote:The speculation has been that the Big12 would pay their exit fees. The question is more whether they want to play a full schedule against teams completely out of their region, particularly in sports that garner no revenue

The schools would share the costs equally. Texas wouldn't be paying for it themselves.

I'm not sure. I heard $30,000,000. Whatever it is, it is a huge dollar figure.AlabamAlum wrote:And they said $20 mil on espn. Was that number wrong?

The Big 12 shares travel expenses which would alleviate much of that. We're not particularly close to the majority of the ACC schools now anyway.
And the exit fee is not what would keep us in the ACC.

bah. you guys aren't going anywhere, this is all just talk. sorry you and Clemson have to financially prop up the ACC, but someone has to. there is always a school or two that subsidizes the others in every conferanceKeviNole wrote:The Big 12 shares travel expenses which would alleviate much of that. There are some very interesting conference discussions at TomahawkNation right now. Here's one outlining how much we really are propping up most of the rest of the conference. BC is an anchor.

Too Bad
You should have thought about that before you invited us to join. Now you have to subsidize us forever. We are in now, so.... ha ha.

Forever, huh? Okay, you keep thinking that way, but there will be another major shift in the next year or two that will cause another domino effect. The ACC is a bottom feeder because they refuse to acknowledge the cash cow that college football represents, though the relatively easy schedule they (finally) handed us this year makes me wonder if they've reconsidered that position (too little, too late). College basketball is a broken sport, though still popular, and worshiping at its alter as the Big East/ACC have done is a fruitless exercise.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
Of course college football is the cash cow. I never said it wasn't. But until you get that actual invite from the SEC (which hasn't come yet) you can't extort a larger portion of our meager ACC television contract "pie." You will have to share equally, one-twelveth, with Wake, BC, and Duke, ha ha, and fuck you.KeviNole wrote:Forever, huh? When the SEC makes you an offer, only then will Swofford be forced to take action the way action was taken in the Big-XII. And then, BC, Wake, and Duke, will go down on their knees and financially felate you the way K-State, Kansas, and Baylor service Texas.... but not before. You getting angry about the shitty $17,000,000/yr from ESPN does nothing. You are bluffing and we can all see your hole cards. You have no place to go (yet.)

If the SEC makes an offer, the deal will be signed in less than a heartbeat. But that's not happening. Right now the only option is to jump to the Big XII, and that looks like it could happen. They have money to help with the buyout after getting the exit fees from their defectors. If message board chatter is any indicator, the Big XII would welcome us, just as much as the ACC seems to welcome our exit.
To Wake and BC, I suggest you make a commitment to basketball, because the ACC is going to lose its automatic BCS bid, because with Miami and UNC being on probation, VT is the only viable football school left to take the torch. It's a shame we were asleep at the wheel for a decade.

When did the Big-XII officially offer the invite? And if they did, how much LESS are you getting than Texas and Oklahoma? They will not share with you equally, you know that right?KeviNole wrote:If the SEC makes an offer, the deal will be signed in less than a heartbeat. But that's not happening. T1 and T2 are equal. T3 is eat what you kill. As opposed to the ACC which is communistic bullshit. Hey, if Texas can start their own successful network, why should the rest of the conference hold their hands out?

Look this whole conversation is stupid. You guys are just pissed off that you subsidize others. I don't blame you but you'll have to get over it, you have no other choice.KeviNole wrote:T1 and T2 are equal. T3 is eat what you kill. As opposed to the ACC which is communistic bullshit. FSU is not going anywhere. You have not been offered anything from the Big-XII or the SEC and if you HAD been offered something from the Big-XII, your share would be less than the $17,000,000 you are already getting from the ACC. It would not benefit you, it would only benefit Texas. You would turn down the deal and you would not get offered a better one. (As it is, the Mormons might be grovelling for less than $10,000,000/yr to get U-C-Provo in the U-Tex conference.) WVa is getting totally screwed by ol' Tex.
We are adding Pitt and Syracuse to the Communist ACC and YES, you WILL be subsidizing them. Yes, football is where its at (not basketball) no argument. But I don't see any B1G-TEN or SEC schools joining us, nor to I see NBC University in South Bend giving up their independance, so we'll have to keep strip mining the scraps off of the ACC junior varsity conference, the Big East. That is where our growth is. You want the ACC to stop being dissed? It is incumbant on YOU to start doing better than 8-4 each year and stop living in the past if you want to start to develop this conference as a football conference.
Its up to you guys. Stop living in the past where your glory days are and start living in the present. You are in a conference with three really small private universities that (each) have under 200,000 living alumni at any one time. You agreed to join two of them 21 years ago and you voted to let number three in 8 years ago, get over it.

If today's announcement of the Big 12/SEC alliance doesn't write on your wall, nothing will. Goodbye, ACC. It could have been so much better if you hadn't picked an idiot as your leader.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
I think the Big12/SEC announcement does indeed send a signal that the ACC is going to be the biggest loser in the new system. If FSU wasn't looking before, they probably are now
