A Censored Race War?

When two white newspaper reporters for the Virginian-Pilot were driving through Norfolk, and were set upon and beaten by a mob of young blacks -- beaten so badly that they had to take a week off from work -- that might seem to have been news that should have been reported, at least by their own newspaper. But it wasn't.

"The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News Channel was the first major television program to report this incident. Yet this story is not just a Norfolk story, either in what happened or in how the media and the authorities have tried to sweep it under the rug.


Similar episodes of unprovoked violence by young black gangs against white people chosen at random on beaches, in shopping malls or in other public places have occurred in Philadelphia, New York, Denver, Chicago, Cleveland, Washington, Los Angeles and other places across the country. Both the authorities and the media tend to try to sweep these episodes under the rug as well.

Religion has very little to do with it, beyond just being the background. There is certainly nothing in Islam that is making bad people make bad decisions or do bad things just as "being Christian" has not stopped bad people in the past from doing bad things. Christianity hasn't stopped people pissed off about boundaries and borders and control from deciding that they needed to blow other people up in Ireland for example, so I see no reason why Islam should be held accountable for every single believer that might be pissed off about one thing or another either.

If there were some nuts off in some 3rd world country (hell this might even exist) who were stoning people to death, and any other number of things mentioned in the Bible it wouldnt mean that Christianity itself was bad just because some nutters thought they were "going by the book"

going by the book, a couple I was spiritually counseling ended their engagement last night

going by the book (the book = THE BIBLE)

that is Christian Fundamentalism

that said, the young man who is no longer able to marry that young lady is a danger to NO ONE simply because he believes every word in the New Testament of the Bible. you and he can disagree that it was a bad idea for him to get that ring back (because of Luke 16:18) but that doesn't matter, no one was physically harmed by his totally believing (and obeying) every word of the New Testament

can't say that about Muslims who believe every word of their book, can we?

That scenario is more applicable to the Western Middle Ages (including the early era of Protestantism). Like I said, European Christianity went through a barbaric phase and did the same savage things that the Muslims are doing right now. No question about it. But Christianity grew out of its barbaric phase. Islam has not.

I find it interesting that Invisible Jesus is so concrete and basic. If she had killed her husband, she could remarry. In fact, she could have been a crack-using, pedophile whore, murderess and that would have been okay. What if she had not told him until after the wedding? Would he have to divorce her then to stay in favor with the church? Are all things viewed that concretely in your religion? In other words, you find a passage about 'thou shall not kill' can you kill in a war? To defend yourself? Capital punishment? Or are there shades of gray? Do we let one passage overrule the other?

Just curious. Don't know how you religious folks do it - that is, find comfort and truth and adhere to the inanity of some of these "laws".

Here's what usually happens: If Protestants don't like their pastor's (or in IB's case, their spiritual counselor's) interpretation of a verse, including that divorce verse, they simply go to a different church that interprets the Bible the way they want. That couple IB counseled has probably already started church shopping.

In case of divorce, Catholics go get an annulment.
