I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

The problem with this argument is Boise State and TCU. I agree it's weighted against them, but the same argument could be made by the Pirates and Royals.Jungle Rat wrote:The BCS is a six league system, shutting out teams outside of it even if they deserve it.

The gubment needs to quit worrying about college football and worry about oil, taxes, and such. This is so not important right now.

Freaking Auburn went undefeated in the SEC and got shut out because there were two other undefeated teams. In other years, there's no real basis to pick between 3 or more one loss teams from those leagues. But the BCS forges ahead and tries to declare the winner the unequivocal national champion even though it seems far from clear in many cases.eCat wrote:since most of us are fans of the SEC, ACC, Big 12 or Big 10, why do we give a shit?Jungle Rat wrote:The BCS is a six league system, shutting out teams outside of it even if they deserve it.

Re: College Football
The 2004-2005 season was ridiculous. 5 FBS teams were undefeated on December 31st of that year. 4 ended the season unbeaten (Auburn, USC, Boise State, and Utah.) And yet here we are almost 10 years later and we are no closer to a real playoff now than we were then.Ron Mexico wrote:Freaking Auburn went undefeated in the SEC and got shut out because there were two other undefeated teams. And why? $$$$$$$$
A Boise State could beat an Alabama in Alabama. That is possible. But that doesn't matter since Brent Mussberger, Craig James, Kirk Herbstreit, Andre Ware, and all the other college football announcers know that their paychecks come from schools like Alabama being on CBS and having home games where $20,000,000 of additional economic activity are conducted, NOT when Boise State is on TV and has a home game where the additional economic activity in Boise amounts to about $500,000.
Oklahoma played UConn in the Fiesta Bowl. The UConn alumni/fans were so enthused about the Fiesta Bowl bid that the University of Connecticut had to eat almost $2,000,000 in unsold Fiesta Bowl tickets. There were empty-fucking-seats at a BCS Bowl! Local scalpers/ticket-master ate the tickets. And we all know that if Ohio State was playing Oklahoma in that game, every seat would have been filled with a Buckeye fanny (job or no job) and the scalpers would have tripled their money for their tickets at the door in Glendale.
We aren't comparing apples to apples here. And in order to have a playoff, you must have apples to apples.

Well, at least UCONN gets to tell recruits that they played in a Fiesta Bowl...and I'm sure all of the players got fancy rings (from the school budget) for the appearance, too.

Re: College Football
Thank whoever you want. Fact is there are only about 20 or maybe 21 universities in the whole country that matter (as far as football goes) because they are the ones that bring in all the $$$$$$$ (since it is their fans who number in the millions who spend money in the billions) to attend the games, buy the college gameday license, spend any figure on Bowl game tickets, and watch all the games on tv nationally. The fact that the majority of these universities are in the SEC and the Big-Ten(12) just adds more credibility to those conferences at the expense of all the others.Bklyn wrote:Well, at least UCONN gets to tell recruits that they played in a Fiesta Bowl...and I'm sure all of the players got fancy rings (from the school budget) for the appearance, too.

I call these schools the CABAL. The "CABAL" includes....
- VPI
- FSU
- Clemson
- South Carolina
- U of Florida
- Alabama
- Auburn
- Georgia
- Tennesee
- LSU
- Texas
- Oklahoma
- Oregon
- Texas A&M
- Ohio State
- Michigan
- Penn State
- Nebraska
- Wisconsin
- Iowa
- Notre Dame
The CABAL does NOT include the following because these schools (no matter how well they do on the field or how many national championships they win) either can't even sell out their own stadium for home games OR if they do sell out, no one wants to watch them on TV since they are just a bunch of inbred hooligans appealing to the lowest common denominator of college football fandom. That instantly expels them from the CABAL. For them I have to say "....oh you won a game? Good for you! Oh, and go fuck yourself, you still don't matter because you don't provide enough money to matter...."

- Texas Tech
- Michigan State
- NC State
- UNC
- Kansas
- ASU
- Colorado
- Arizona
- Mizzou
- Purdue
- (and now, thanks to the Pac-12) Utah
IF such a tragic event were to occur (such as one of these schools running the table while no one else in ALL of the BCS does the same) that might very well END the BCS. It would. A subjective BCS poll (with Jeff Sagarin algorithm and the other computer algorithms putting them at the top) would be an unmitigated disaster. It would end it as the MNC game would have 10,000 to 20,000 empty seats in the stadium and the ratings share for the TV broadcast would be lower than any of the other BCS games, lower than even Chick-fil-A, the Gator, and the Cotton Bowl. It would be a monumental, financial, disaster, an embarrassment for college football. Therefore, these schools may NEVER be allowed anywhere near the MNC, not if the "powers that be" can help it.

Sadly Auggie, I'm going to have to include your Raleigh Community College with West Virgina. Truthfully, NC State is probably the second or third best college game day experience in the ACC. Of course, that it not saying much if we want to compare ourselves to the SEC.AugustWest wrote:if they do sell out, no one wants to watch them on TV since they are just a bunch of inbred hooligans appealing to the lowest common denominator of college football fandom.

Either way, if the Wolfpack ever do get to the MNC, it isn't going to kill the BCS the way it would if Boston College went there. So I have ZERO to brag about.

Re: College Football
IB, is right. The game of CFB is set up to dominated by the traditional powers. If you look who dominated the game 50-75 years ago, its the same teams as today. The exceptions are the Florida schools, which have come on in more recent years. Everyone else is their whipping boys.
On the other hand thats what is so magical about College basketball. Everyone has a chance, if not to win the tournemt, then at laest do weel. In CFB only the tradtional powers have real chance to win big. Everyone gets craped on. Support a team like Kentucky for thirty years and you'll see who's is and who is not in charge in CFB.

Re: College Football
It is not about dominance unless you equate dominance with MONEY. Dominance is most certainly NOT on the field for these schools, not every year. Texas sucked last year, but they still are the premier school ("numero UNO") in the CABAL. Michigan has sucked for the last 5 or 6 years, but they will always be either #4 or #5 in the CABAL. And Miami (a Florida school) is NOT part of the CABAL as they can't sell out their own stadium. No matter how much the Wolverines suck, no matter how sucky the economy of Michigan is, the people of Michigan are too proud to be embarrassed to not sell every single one of those 110,000 seats to every single home game. THAT is CABAL!Fifer wrote:IB, is right. The game of CFB is set up to dominated by the traditional powers. If you look who dominated the game 50-75 years ago, its the same teams as today. Stanford HAS A CHANCE TO WIN THE MNC next year. I think they have a shot. I saw their schedule. They could go 12-0.
If they DO go 12-0 (and no one else does) that could be DEATH for the BCS. The last thing the BCS needs is an MNC with empty seats in the stadium because the Stanford alumni wont travel.
