what I've learned is that kids that have older brothers or sisters are the ones that will fuck up your kid.

what I've learned from being the youngest and basically having nieces and nephews that grew up with me is that most parents don't shut the fuck up. They either ignore kids or spend all their time lecturing/teaching. I've found if you give kids time to talk, and take the time to listen (really listen) they'll tell you a whole lot implicitly or explicitly.

I'm hoping that observation remains true when my two parasites start getting a mind of their own...

this is true. I've caught myself over talking my son several times and once you do it's hard to get them back on track. I'm working pretty hard to just let him talk and listen.
