She did that because she wanted to game the system (never wanting to give up her US citizenship BUT wanting the ability to go to Canada and get her government paid healthcare of which she paid nothing into, but was entitled to since she was a Canadian)...

That's what I'm doing with Ireland. When we go single payer, I'm going to wherever the waiting times are shorter.

BTW, those with dual citizenship with Canada, and are planning to go there if they need free medical treatment, are in for a rude surprise. Canadian law says that, even if you are a Canadian citizen, you have to live there for six consecutive months immediately preceding accessing their health care system. I know somebody who learned that the hard way.

First fiancee was BPD so (to her) the whole world simply revolved around her. Nothing else mattered except her own personal comforts. I'm sure she knew the law and would have just moved to Canada, filled out whatever paperwork she needed with the provincial government of New Brunswick, and just "waited" at her mom's house for 6 months for her free surgery. There was no way this woman was working, no way. She was functionally incapable of working a job. That is why she preferred living in the States. There is more things for the indigent leeches to do. All she could do in the Maritimes is drink beer, go to bingo, play her guitar, and shiver in the cold.

If you talk to anyone who works in R&D at pharmaceutical companies, they will all say the same thing, the capitalist drive for profit is the single motivator they have for the minimum 10 years of research and $100,000,000 investment needed for each and every drug they bring to market. And ONLY the US Free-Market health care system rewards them with enough money to recoup their entire investment and make ANY profit.

Take that away (and you take that away with US single-payer), all research will cease, immediately.

If Pfizer brings a drug to market that is approved by the FDA (and that required 10 years of research and $100,000,000 investment by Pfizer), they have about a ten year window where they can sell that drug for any price they want in the United States WITHOUT it being made generic by every other drug company. Okay, so the clock is ticking, their window is closing. So they price that drug at the maximum possible price they can in the United States and sell it to people because there is a market here to buy it. People want to live longer. They don’t want to die and they will pay big bucks, to live longer. About two years after Pfizer brings it to market, the nation of Canada comes along and tells Pfizer “…..uh, we want that drug here in Canada, eh. But NO WAY are we going to make our citizens pay $10 a pill the way they currently do in the States, eh. We’ll give you 25 cents a pill, take it or leave it, eh.” Of course, Pfizer takes it. They take it not because they have to, not because they love Canadians, but because Pfizer does not give a damn about Canada. That teeny bit of money the Canadians are willing to pay, was not factored into Pfizer's R&D costs and it is all gravy. That Canadian price (25 cents a pill) if that is the only price that Pfizer could get, would NEVER-EVER be enough to justify the $100,000,000 investment made by Pfizer to being that drug to market. Never. But because people in the United States don’t have single-payer, Pfizer doesn’t have to worry about the United States government setting the price for a drug the way Canada did. The Free Market sets the price, and ONLY the United States has the Free Market. Canada is NOT in the Free Market. There are NO single-payer nations in the free market health care system, zero. So whatever single-payer Canada is willing to negotiate for its people to get the drug a couple years after it has been in the US, that is just a teeny-tiny bit of extra money that Pfizer makes.

Remember "Professor", the first pill costs Pfizer $100,000,000. The second pill, costs them a dime (or whatever.)

If the US goes single payer, all R&D at Pfizer will cease. Done. It’s over. And why? No money. The US would then be able to negotiate with Pfizer the way Canada did and since Pfizer knows exactly PRECISELY how many pills they need to sell to recoup their investment (in that ten year window) they would NEVER be able to do so without a Free Market health care system. And there would be NO MORE FREE MARKET if the United States goes single-payer (thus exiting the market.)

Basically "Professor", the rest of the world with their single-payer healthcare systems, they are just parasites, a leech off the United States Free Market system. The US free market DRIVES all drug and high-tech healthcare R&D for the entire world. It's here first, or the world doesn't get it. Without the United States remaining Free Market, their single-payer systems wouldn’t really work anymore because there would be no more new drugs. It would be all down hill for the rest of the world's health care systems.
