Only seven of 16 games played Saturday and Sunday had the winner reaching 70 points. I've never seen more "Team X hasn't scored a FG in 5:00" or whatever scrolls at the bottom of the television screen.

All the scorers keep going pro after a year or two. All that stick around are hardworking defenders. So you have hustling Juniors and Seniors to play D (with the occasional assisted basket), while you rely on the March shooting of Freshman and Sophomores for the bulk of your scoring.

At least that's how I view the big conference teams.

offense in college hoops in general seems to have regressed over the last decade plus.

Look at who's left in the tournament, and with a few exceptions it's a who's who of teams that have lots of length and athleticism, but not exactly a ton of scoring prowess.

Watching the USF-Ohio game was painful (though watching any USF game can be painful). Kansas has some guys who can score, but that Purdue game was also an abomination. The FSU-Cincy game could be used as a new inquisition strategy by the CIA.

Did you not watch the UC-FSU game? Your head would have exploded had UNC been a part of either of those two teams last night. Bodies were flying everywhere and the refs just let them play, as they should have.

"By the by, has anybody noticed the quality of offense, in general, has been horrid this tournament? It's like first team to 60 wins."

"I would think the average score is closer to 70 than 60, and that doesnt seem all that far off from normal"

It's nice to see Jonquil sassed down (bootless or no) so quickly after such a long break from the boards. It's as if he never left...

What does the that last statement have to do with average score?

Also Goldie, during the OU-SF game you posted that if UNC doesn't beat either Ohio or South Florida by 25 you would be pissed. Then you find out later you lose one player and suddenly UNC is going to lose?

The average score was 65 on the nose per team per game on Saturday and Sunday. Not exactly a bunch of barnburners.

Scott Drew involved in shady (well, in this case, blatantly against the rules) recruiting practices (contacting a player at another school to transfer) according DJ Cooper and his mom. Of course, I'm sure they made it all up and Scott Drew just happened to be the unlucky coach they made up something about in order to gain, well, Im not sure what they gain exactly but it must all be lies.

That whole hullabaloo about his staff supposedly threatening to get a kid deported if he didn't commit was another example of how certain media types are just out to get the Baylor program for no reason.

I'm sure Drew used an "unofficial" phone to make such calls though and thus can deny it, unlike some people we could mention...

You have to rip a guys head off now before they call a foul, so not near as many points are scored with the clock stopped. I don't know the stats but fouls and points scored at the line have to be way way down in recent years. I can't remember the last time I saw a college game where one team scored a hundred points. Its all about defense.

I never saw Talent post that he was in the pool except for after the games started over on Yahoo. The only times he's posted here since last May was to say something about Hizzy. It's cool though, he's a Buckeye fan, all Buckeyes like breaking the rules.

I'm wondering why so many teams keep shooting 2s when they're down 5 or 6 late. There was one team, can't remember who now, who was down 3 and took a 2 in the final 3-4 seconds. It was a botched play but still the guy had a chance to throw it out to the perimeter. Loucks for FSU last night kept going in for layups when they were down 6 inside 30 seconds.

shoot the 3, idiots.

despite all the Twitter stuff today from Marshall's dad, I still don't think he can play with much effectiveness this weekend if he even tries. someone suggested using Bullock at PG and that would be disastrous but not as much as having Barnes there.
