Re: Ostensibly Hoops
supernatural reasons
anything we can't explain with our 3 dimensional plus time rationale I consider supernaturial
a deity would fall into that category as does any explantion of the origins and boundaries of the universe
any afterlife also would qualify as "supernatural"
if the origns and boundaries of the universe are something supernatural then who says the various religios beliefs and afterlife beliefs have to be discounted but the universe origins and boundaries are not?
anyway thinking about going to one of those "super golf sales" at a local exhibition hall--you know the type cletus--thousands of clubs/equipment etc for dirt cheap prices--anyway I'm looking to convert my adams hybrids at least the 4 and 5 to steel shaft long irons
question is whether paying 8 bucks admission to these shows--is it worth going to these things or a waste of time?

I got my daughter some Callaway drivers and adams blades.
Had to cut them down a bit to size for her even as junior sets.

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

I've never been to one of those things but it's probably worth the time and small fee. I'm surprised you are going from hybrids to irons. I think, for most people, the hybrids are much easier to hit and make a lot of sense from whatever is the 150 club and longer.crashcourse wrote:

Blades like real forged irons? She'll either hate the game or find out that she's really good.eCat wrote:I got my daughter some Callaway drivers and adams blades.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Superstitions are linked with learning. Its a side effect of being able to link and remember the fact that you burned the fuck out of yourself by touching the hot pot, and so you shouldnt do it again, or that if you stab the animal through the heart it dies.
The brain is evolved to make those connections. The problem then, is that what also happens is that if you prayed really hard, and something good happened the next day (good outcomes are invariably more memorable than bad ones as well) that they must also have been linked, or that if you rubbed the rabbits foot and got dealt a blackjack that probably you should do that next time as well, or that if you were watching the Kentucky game with your beer in hand, and Tennesee hit a three pointer, but missed when you put the beer down, then you must have caused it, etc.

How does any of that connect to thinking that there are reasons to believe in anything supernatural?

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Whoops, well, there is no real reason TO believe in anything specific supernatural, but there are reasons that people do believe in supernatural crap.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
When you say blades do you mean a set of irons or the small forged irons that are referred to as blades? I hope you didn't get her blades. Given that they are Adams, the chances are they are cast irons which are appropriate for a little kid.eCat wrote:She starts lessons in two weeks. Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Assuming eCat really bought blades for his daughter....would this be the first time in history that someone bought clubs for a beginner made by Adams and they were blades?

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
It seems very unlikely. But, I also know from experience that the people who work at the various golf mega-marts know very little about the products they are selling and are more interested in moving product. So, it's not hard to imagine a guy taking advantage of a guy by selling him a set of Adams blades. If they even exist, I suspect they don't sell very well so finding a way to get it out the door would be a big win.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
those adams were the first set of new clubs I ever got the A5's. never have gotten custom fitted for clubs--handicap is 15 which I seem to be stuck at with my biggest weakness being GIR. driving/putting and chipping fine--sand sucks but its more our home course combined with my suckiness out of sand/hardCletus wrote:I've never been to one of those things but it's probably worth the time and small fee. anyway the utility 4 and 5 I use 4-6 times a round and they aren't very consistent so I thought Id try a couple of long irons. I've hit mizunos and loved them at golf galaxy but aren't sinking 500-600 bucks as a 51 yo for long iron mizunos if I can try some adams first to replace the utilities

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Get fitted by someone who really knows what he is doing and has the equipment that measures all the important stuff especially the spin rate and launch angle. The correct shaft is more important than the club head and you won't know what the right shaft is without all the data.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
I did it last summer with all my clubs and, after seeing how poorly fit I was, I'm amazed I was able to get the ball off the ground. I hit it so much better now. I wish I could practice more since I think I have a chance to be decent given how I hit it.
