nobody thinks an "uprising" is imminent in the US. the point is the founding fathers included freedom of the press in the bill of rights specifically to help guard against government tyranny. today's press is abdicating that right and responsibility. this is just another bank on what's becoming a very slippery slope of our eroding freedoms. and why are they doing this? THE MONEY yep, it's all about the fucking money.

Methinks it's less about uprising...and more about money. It's always a safer bet to say money is the cause. The net marketplace is making piracy and file sharing too easy without the ability to derive any corporate or governmental income from it...so it has to go.

SOPA is a bitch of a bill, but I see some form of it passing in some way over the next 3 - 5 years.

Our best bet is to speak to it with our dollars. GoDaddy was a supporter of SOPA until a mass effort to switch to a different host by many customers made them change their tune. That's our hope to stop this. The corporate cash that will come into political coffers from film, music and software interests will continue to grow until some form of SOPA is inacted.

reddit claims to have been very instrumental in this. supposedly redditors moved thousands of domains off of godaddy to other hosts when it became known that godaddy not only supported sopa but had gotten language written onto the bill exempting them from some of it's effects.

Last night I was helping my 4th grader study for his History test which they are currently going over the Revolutionary War. He had to learn the beginning part of the Declaration of Independence we all know, "We hold these truths to be self-evident..." etc., etc. ending in "Life, liberty, and the pursit of happiness..." But it is good to read the rest of the document, especially this part:

"That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. LaFeyette got tired of hearing the excuses of his hero's as to why it wasn't practical to free their slaves so he decided to show how it could be be done. He bought a plantation (in French New Guinea I believe), freed the slaves there, then said they could leave or stay on wages and he built a school for those that decided to stay. Over the years he continued to expand the operation buying up nearby properties and freeing any slaves that came with those purchases.
