Heh. Pike hasn't enrolled at AU yet, but he already hates Bama like a seasoned pro.

Nevertheless, if Saban ever DID decide he wanted Pike (even just to keep him away from us), Saban would just wave his pointing finger, use his old Jedi mind control trick, and Pike would immediately start poisoning our trees.

His Jedi mind control is not a trick, but The Saban does not use a "pointing" finger for mind control. It is too obvious. He simply uses a drill bit stare, or a laser stare if he's a little miffed.

And Pike has not yet begun to hate Alabama. A few years from now he will throw up at the thought of going 0-fer against us.

Heh - we just started 4 true freshmen on the OL in our bowl game, two of which were making their first start (the other two weren't supposed to play this year at all). OL woes suck.

Agreed Kevi. Ergo if Pike was a 5 * OL, all bets would be off for him attending AU.

Prof, rather than wade through 200-odd pages of PNNery, why are you so against Romney? Honest question. I don't know enough about the man to really form an opinion and have little time to do such research.

Didn't really want to bring it over here, but I ain't huntin' for it over there.

A reasonable question. In short, all I ask for the Republican nominee is to be convincingly conservative. Romney fails to achieve that ridiculously low standard. I regard him as a chameleon who says whatever he needs to say in order to get elected.

When he was running for office in liberal Massachusetts, he was pro-abortion:

But now, when he is running for the Republican nomination, he "suddenly" becomes pro-life.

When he was running for office in liberal Massachusetts, he was for gun-control:

But now, when he is running for the Republican nomination, he "suddenly" becomes pro-second amendment.

When he was governing in liberal Massachusetts, he was the architect of government-run health care, including the individual mandate. Note his admiration of Ted Kennedy:

But now, when he's running for the Republican nomination, he says government-run health care and the individual mandate is bad if Obama does it.

His defenders say, "He didn't mean all those those things he said and did. He just did it to get elected." If that's true, then he was lying to the voters of Massachusetts. And if he was lying to the voters then, then how do we know he's not lying to us now?

A lot of people will vote for him saying, "Romney will lower taxes! Romney will cut spending and the deficit! Romney will abolish Obamacare!" My question to that is, what assurances do you have that he will actually do ANY of those things? He has lied before, so he can lie again. If you're voting for Romney, you have no idea what you're getting. I'm not voting for that.

The Republicans severely damaged the party under the 8 years of Bush because they governed like fiscal liberals. They are still struggling to recover their brand as the party of small government and fiscal discipline. If they get one more Establishment-approved mushy moderate like Bush Sr, Dole, McCain or Romney, they will probably lose the election like Bush Sr., Dole and McCain. And even if Romney does manage to get elected, but he governs like the mushy moderate he has already proven himself to be, the damage to the Republican party will take a generation to repair.

Thanks Prof. While obviously different items and circumstances, those are synopsis reasons which prevented me voting for Kerry. He changed his mind based on the past hours polls.

If we don't hire a DC and OC soon, we are going to have a Tuberville-type recruiting class.

Scattershooting while wondering whatever happened to Meiko Collier...

Pleasantly surprised to see us win our bowl game...given all of the upheaval on the coaching staff with coordinators and the suspension/walking papers given to Dyer as distractions, AU played reasonably well. 8-1 in our last 9 bowl games...I'll take it.

Basketball team = abysmal...when your basketball team can't score as many points against Vanderbilt as the football team did in their bowl game (and we didn't pull a Baylor or WVU and score 67+ in the bowl game), you suck.

Saw my first NFL playoff game in person yesterday...Auburn related because Ben Tate plays for the Texans. For all of the shit Tennessee fans gave Arian Foster, he's been a hell of a RB the last two seasons. His fumbling tendency, which was probably the source of a lot of Vol vile, reared its head late in the season and on his first carry yesterday (he fortunately recovered his own bobble), but he was a beast after that.

Happy 2012 to you knuckle-dragging reprobates...

2012 football schedule doesn't look quite as fearsome as the 2011 slate.

Neutral site game against Clemson to start the season looks to be tough.

Road schedule is about as manageable as you could ask for...@ MS schools, Vandy and Alabama. Not cupcake easy by any stretch, but not @ LSU, SCar, Ark, UGA difficult either.

No back-to-back road games.

The Bonfired Internal Conflict Bowl is October 27.

I must say, the A&M fans impressed me in the one game I attended with them present ('86 Cotton Bowl). They had a lot of spirit, never sat down, wore some really cool WWII retro oufits, and had many cheers that made no sense whatsoever.

"Bonfired internal conflict"... Heh!

At least the football gods gave you some solace last season for the Alabama/Tejas title game. As an aTm fan you probably hold a little ill will towards those other tigers though.

Are Aggie fans excited about the renewal of the LSU series?

Also, are they pissed about Mizzou being their season-ending game? That's shitty.
I proudly took AFAM 040 at Carolina.

Yes and yes. I think a lot of Aggies were hoping that Arkansas and Missouri would get paired off at the end of the season and clear out LSU-A&M for the last weekend, but I didn't think that would happen. Arkansas and South Carolina were paired off as permanent opponents when they joined in 1992 and it makes sense that A&M and Missouri would be similarly paired.

What's funny is that Missouri is coming to College Station for the third consecutive year due to some schedule anomalies...what's not as humorous is the fact that they've won the last two in Kyle Field and 5 of the last 6 overall.

VAN GORDER IS OUR NEW DC!

That's a home run hire on several levels. First, he is a proven and excellent DC in both college and the NFL. His defenses at UGA ranked in the top 5 nationally. He even won the Broyles award as the top assistant in CFB. The man knows what he is doing. He can quickly dispel the lingering odor of Ted Roof from our defense.

Second, his NFL experience and name recognition in Georgia might give us a chance with Jenkins and Tomlinson, as well as other defensive stars who have been waiting for us to get our coaching situation settled. His experience and success at UGA means he has connections to GA schools which will help us in future recruiting.

Third, thank God the Falcons lost yesterday.

He's a good one, but the Tampa 2 is so last decade. He is going to need some new tricks to continue to succeed at a high level. I think he was going to be let go in Atlanta for a more aggressive attaching style D Coord.

His stats as DC at UGA:

2001 - 18.9 pts per game and 5th rushing defense
2002 - Led SEC in scoring defense and 4th in nation
2003 - 3rd in scoring defense, 4th in total defense in nation - Won Broyles award
2004 - 8th in scoring defense and 9th in total defense

You'd take him back in a second.

I just want not to cringe every time our defense runs out on the field like I have been doing with Roof.
