And on a semi-related note, I was able to hit 136 on I-10 on the bridge between Lafayette and Baton Rouge last week. It was about 6:30 in the morning and traffic was about as light as you can get on that stretch of interstate. I'm thankful that there wasn't any fog. Kind of rainy, though. Thank god for the performance package.

There was recently a 40-car pile-up in Lousisana due to fog. Two died. A friend of mine worked the scene. Said it was the worst he's seen.

Romney doesn't believe we should have left Iraq. No idea at all about a timetable to leave Afghanistan. It may be hard to be more hawkish than Obama, but based on what he's been saying, he will be. He's said nothing at all that is to the left of Obama on foreign policy.

I don't know many Romney specifics, as far as policy. He's a good criticizer and the media has spent the past 4 mos focusing on personality and policy, so I'm interested to see what he will say come money time.

That contribution listing is not surprising. Romney is a finance guy and I bet plenty of guys who once worked for Bain are now at Citi or Goldman or KKR or Blackstone or UBS (and their shitty investment divisions) and so on and so on.

If Romney gets elected, banks will have more freedom than ever. I will tell you all, if his election chances look strong coming into next September, then start dumping cash into equities, because the market will soar slightly going into October and go nuts through the rest of the 4th quarter if he wins (and I don't see him winning).

I don't think the media has focused much on Romney's policies at all. On economics, he mainly says that he'll repeal whatever Obama passed, that Obama is not a leader, and that he knows how to create jobs. He also says that he can work across political lines (fat chance. Romney's biggest goal will be to get re-elected and there will be 40 Democrats doing everything in the Senate to prevent that from happening- I really think in the present climate, the best time to get anything done is the first two months after you are elected and the first year of your second term). On foreign policy, whatever Obama's done, it's not enough and he should do more. Oh yeah, go Israel.

On social issues, whatever is the opposite of what he said in Massachusetts.

I re-read what I wrote and realized I was multi-tasking looking at the Iowa v Okie game and the Clips v Bulls game, and did not capture what I wanted to say. So, I'm taking a mulligan...

he has pretty much been given a pass because the GOP has been in "anyone but Romney" mode, now they are in ...wait, did we say anyone? well hell, we didn't mean Ron Paul, we LOVE Mitt Romney" so just before the New Hampshire Primary, Romney is going to start getting vetted.

Plus his strategy was to let the others flame out and not get busted on in the press by giving interviews. Now he is out there and he doesn't like being reminded of his flip flopping and liberal rules.

I also think Christie is going to backfire on him. Christie was wildly popular back when Herman Cain was looking like the best option but now people are going to be reminded that Christie is a mixed bag of fiscal cutter and liberal thinker.

I know this sounds like horseshit, but it really does strike a chord with me. I could live without the divine image stuff but there is alot of truth to this. You can’t help yourself. The voracious hunger to be able to use your God-given freedom takes you over entirely. It’s like you suddenly realize you’re human and the Divine Image with which God created you comes alive and catches fire.

But something else happens to you. Once you get hooked on Ron Paul, you can no longer bear to listen to a man who wants power, and you become instantly disgusted when they start saying words. Before, they were just boring. Now they’re revolting. Listening to Romney or Gingrich or Bush or Obama makes you sick and you don’t know how Ron Paul gets through those debates without getting nauseous. You see a political veneer in these politicians that’s so transparent it’s like a ghost flapping its ethereal tongue at you. You can’t bear it.

What’s so maddening about hearing Romney or Gingrich talk is that there’s someone standing there saying things, but there’s no soul in it. These are not free men. These are power men. Not that Romney or Gingrich don’t have souls. They do. They are men just like you and I. But they have practically forfeited their souls to try and attain power, to control others with spin and talking points and contradictory statements like “I want to cut the budget and expand the military!” and they’ll say it with a polished tone and a straight face, just like a soulless recording. Their humanity is so buried under the mountain of lies they have told themselves, that neither they themselves nor you can even sense their souls in the human continuum. The scene of a human body speaking but no soul communicating can drive a free man mad.

It is in everybody’s interests that they become champions of such policies again. That is not impossible, but there is a lot of catching up to do.
