Yep, I've been studying up on SOPA. I've also noticed how the lobby effort to pass SOPA has kicked in strong as legislation against piracy that "takes American jobs."

I've voiced my concern to my pols.

In all seriousness, Obama's foreign policy moves have been quite "B plus", if not more. It seems he can be extremely decisive in those matters. When he has to do the political jockeying part (with Congress...either a DEM-controlled Congress or this new obstructionist GOP Congress), he is not as effective.

As far as what happens to the countries after the leader croaks, I think you can generally weigh the possibilities with a little ease:

1. Cuba - At worst, stays a commie country with little influence anywhere, except in Florida politics. At best, Cletus can triathlon at a new tropical venue in 2015.

2. N. Korea - At worst, more of the same macho military posturing and citizen famine with the country continuing to sell arms to anyone who'll buy. At best, the new leader (fatboy son) strikes a treaty with the West (or the NK military coups and does), gets aid in the form of food for its starving populace and N. Korea turns into Kazakhstan East.

3. Libya - At worst, their people are fucked. At best, we have a new oil trading partner that we did not have 2 years ago.

4. Egypt - At worst, Israel is fucked. At best, nothing really changes.

But Jefferson, like most of the top figures in the American Revolution, was far more of a sceptic in religious matters. He was fascinated by metaphysics but he had no time for the mystical. In contrast with today’s vituperative exchanges, these differences did not stop the two gentlemen maintaining a warm correspondence. But Jefferson’s approach to redacting the Bible involved something more radical than translation. He literally snipped out everything supernatural: miracles, the Virgin birth, the resurrection. The result was his own, non-mystical account of the life of Jesus. He told his old comrade: “I too have made a wee little book from the same materials which I call the ‘Philosophy of Jesus.’ It is a paradigma [sic] of his doctrines, made by cutting the pages out of the book and arranging them on the pages of a blank book…A more beautiful or precious morsel…I have never seen. It is a document in proof that I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus, very different from the Platonists who call me infidel and themselves Christians.”

I'm reading a book on Thomas Paine. He was a Deist. After reading his opinion on things, I think I can say I'm a Deist as well.

now on to more exciting matters. Today was my final day on Grand Jury and I was rewarded with swearing in a porn starlet! as well as a call girl who was actually really hot.

I will attempt to find the porn star and post a picture of her.

I'm guessing her given name isn't her performance name anyway.

It may be too early to have it hit the web, but it all should be public record. So, Googling the county, the guys name and "robbery" "larceny" or "theft" then "arrest" should do the trick I would expect.

There were commenters in the Comments section of the article that talked about Paine and his book (something containing "Reason" in the title) and the fact he was a Deist. I must admit, I don't know too much about him, even though I'm a bit of a history nerd. I'll dig a little deeper into his bio.

The book is called the Age of Reason

He wrote the first half prior to being put in prison. Prison almost killed him and as he was being nursed back to health he wrote the second half.

He goes after organized religion big time. His view is - yea, there is some shit out there we can't explain and its probably a higher power that put it all together, but he doesn't give a fuck about us. We're an ant hill in his universe.

The Ally From Hell
Pakistan lies. It hosted Osama bin Laden (knowingly or not). Its government is barely functional. It hates the democracy next door. It is home to both radical jihadists and a large and growing nuclear arsenal (which it fears the U.S. will seize). Its intelligence service sponsors terrorists who attack American troops. With a friend like this, who needs enemies?

Nuclear weapons must go to the shop for occasional maintenance, and so they must be moved to suitably equipped facilities, but Pakistan is also said to move them about the country in an attempt to keep American and Indian intelligence agencies guessing about their locations.

Nuclear-weapons components are sometimes moved by helicopter and sometimes moved over roads. And instead of moving nuclear material in armored, well-defended convoys, the SPD prefers to move material by subterfuge, in civilian-style vehicles without noticeable defenses, in the regular flow of traffic. According to both Pakistani and American sources, vans with a modest security profile are sometimes the preferred conveyance. And according to a senior U.S. intelligence official, the Pakistanis have begun using this low-security method to transfer not merely the “de-mated” component nuclear parts but “mated” nuclear weapons. Western nuclear experts have feared that Pakistan is building small, “tactical” nuclear weapons for quick deployment on the battlefield. In fact, not only is Pakistan building these devices, it is also now moving them over roads.

What this means, in essence, is this: In a country that is home to the harshest variants of Muslim fundamentalism, and to the headquarters of the organizations that espouse these extremist ideologies, including al-Qaeda, the Haqqani network, and Lashkar-e-Taiba (which conducted the devastating terror attacks on Mumbai three years ago that killed nearly 200 civilians), nuclear bombs capable of destroying entire cities are transported in delivery vans on congested and dangerous roads. And Pakistani and American sources say that since the raid on Abbottabad, the Pakistanis have provoked anxiety inside the Pentagon by increasing the pace of these movements. In other words, the Pakistani government is willing to make its nuclear weapons more vulnerable to theft by jihadists simply to hide them from the United States, the country that funds much of its military budget.

Yeah right, if you are too lazy to reengineer yourself to make yourself more marketable in today's environment, then you will be too lazy to revolt. Look at the Greeks. Their gov't is giving it to them in the ass with austerity and they are mildly protesting.

Blue collar labor is less and less, not just in this country, but worldwide. In this day and age, being "productive" with your hands gets you nowhere, you have to be "productive" with your mind. We can get all sentimental about Joe clock-in and clock-out, but that's the past. You can't enable people to wallow in the past, it does no good for them in the long run.

there is alot of truth to that but that fails to address the 99% versus 1% inequality.

and the government is fighting to make it worse by referring to the 1% as job creators in a time where we are facing long term unemployment and a massive number of people at or below the poverty line.
