It is an irony that LSU must play UGA to go to the BCSCG, while Bama can just sit at back, relax, sharpen their swords, and go to the BCSCG without even putting their pads on.

Yeah, funny how the ball bounces. I don't think not playing in this game helps Bama, though. In fact, I would gladly switch places with LSU. Make us play Georgia in their place. I would love that.

Ped State is a typical overrated Big 10 team - they play same style as Bama just not near as well - they could play 10 times and not win.
I can't quite agree with this-- even your typical overrated Big Ten team doesn't usually have a QB situation as bad as Penn State had this year. Penn State did remarkably well to win nine games without a reliable passing game. I'd say Penn State would be lucky to win one in a hundred against Alabama, and they were fortunate to score when they played the Tide.

As for your contention that Alabama doesn't deserve the shot at the rematch, which Oklahoma State victory would you claim to be more impressive than Alabama's public disemboweling of Arkansas?

And more importantly ro me, how can you forgive their headscratching loss to a team they were favored to beat by 30? They were the obvious choice before that game. Afterwards, not so much.

Some teams are sharpened by competition, while others strengthen by resting. It's anybody's guess which pole that Bama and LSU gravitate towards. Any advantage will only be obvious if the Honey Badger tears an ACL in Atlanta.

C'mon, Prof. The BCS Title Game is January 9th. Alabama playing its last game on 11/26 gives us 44 days to rest. LSU playing this Saturday gives them 37 days to rest. Surely, you aren't suggesting that is some great advanatge for college kids.

"Wow, we would have played much better if only we had had 44 days off. Only having a measly 37? UNFAIR!!"

Hey, wait a minute! We played Utah in the 2008 Sugar Bowl after only 26 days off (because of the SECCG). Those pesudo mormon sons of bitches had 41 days off because they didn't even play in a CCG!

We were robbed! I hereby vacate Utah's win in that game. WIPE IT FROM THE BOOKS!

It took you years to live down Bama's epically ignominious bowl performance against puny little Utah. Bringing it back up now seems... reckless.

No, it's not reckless; it's exculpatory. Bama was cheated out of rest days! Undeafeted #2 Utah cheated!

Everyone knows that at the end of four quarters, head-to-head, Alabama 6, LSU 6. Bama loses by 3 in OT.

What people forget is that we had 6 common opponents. The scores are so close that they are eerie. Alabama played on the road in 4 of these games and LSU played on the road in 3 of them.

* Alabama beat Arkansas by 24. LSU beat Arkansas by 24.
* Alabama beat Tennessee by 31, LSU beat Tennessee by 31.
* Alabama beat Ole Miss by 45. LSU beat Ole Miss by 49.
* Alabama beat Miss State by 17. LSU beat Miss State by 13.
* Alabama beat Auburn by 28. LSU beat Auburn by 35.
* Alabama beat Florida by 28. LSU beat Florida by 30.

Wow! This is going to be a good game. I've heard people say that a rematch favors the precvious loser. But It may favor the team without the offense in the first game..

I don't see how a rematch favors either team.

And neither team had an offense in the first game. Both teams' defenses saw to that.

I think the rematch could go either way. The last one was decided by a razor thin margin. The absence of a Bama home field advantage this time might be worth a couple of points in LSU's favor. But that's about the only difference. OTOH Bama may luck out again and have a major LSU player get injured in Atlanta. Sort of a preemptive Colt McCoy.

Prof, please tell me your NOT in the camp which thinks Tejas would have crushed Alabama if Colt hadn't been hurt. Who knows, if he'd still been in the game perhaps we wouldn't have left our offense in the locker room at half time.

The game surely would have been played differently, but I didn't see Colt lining up to play defense.

DDAL, I think you have me confused with Bonfired.

And AA/GBJ, if you want to believe that Texas losing its starting QB and biggest offensive weapon in the first series had absolutely no effect on the outcome of that game, then you are high. Just like Peyton Manning's absence hasn't affected the Colts this year at all. Maybe, by your "logic," the Patriots should just bench Tom Brady in their next Super Bowl. If he doesn't play, it will make no difference. Right?

And AA says he could have gone to Harvard...heh...

That's not what he said. I'm sure it had an effect. Not a 17 point difference, though. Colt didn't play much linebacker and that Bama defense was not giving up 37 points to Texas.

Yep, you are a moron.

As far as Harvard, I applied and was accepted. I don't know why you find that so hard to believe. In fact, we have one of the Florida guys who counts Harvard as one of his alma maters. Is he lying, too? My son is in law school at Penn. Am I lying about that or is that different? Anyway, I fit their selection criteria: I had a 4.0 gpa, a perfect score on the ACT, and did extracurriculars in HS (FB, BB, Wrestle, Debate) - all things that they like. I didn't get a full ride on an academic schollie there like I did down here, though.

lmao.

OK just for shits and giggles lets say Bama wins the rematch 17-14. Looking at each teams season - why should Bama be the automatic choice for the MNC? Hasnt LSU had the better season when you come down to it?

1996 still hurts, doesn't it, doc?

Anyway, regular season wins do not mitigate post season losses.

Say Bama beats Tennessee on TSIO, but loses the SECCG. Who is the champ? Who goes to the Sugar?

Say, the Falcons lose two regular season games to the Saints, but win in the playoffs. Who goes to the Super Bowl.

Etc, etc, etc...
