I welcome any arguments that are rooted in logic. And I give Auggie points for at least trying.
Anyone who disagrees with me can start by telling me what you think the cops should have done differently. We've already got Walk Away and Hope for the Best. I think that most people would dismiss that as ridiculous just as quickly as I would. Others?

The cops should have gone to the "pretty please with sugar on top" technique when they asked them to move.

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
no, my solution was defuse the situation rather than abusing American citizens on camera but nice try. the only person committing violence in the video was the cop. the only people armed and ready for violence were cops. it's [s]hilarious[/s] tragic to me that in your opinions a bunch of granola eating, tie-dye wearing, non-bathing hippies too lazy to get a job are such a threat to America that cops should have carte blanche to pepper spray them in order to.... well I'm not sure what you're afraid of the hippies doing. blocking a sidewalk seems to be a big issue. I got stuck behind an old lady on the sidewalk the other day. bitch slowed me down for half a block. guess I should have sprayed her in the name of all that is good and holy. or maybe they were going to attack some cops, although I dont see how they were going to do that if the cops left. maybe they would follow them to the station and attack them there. or maybe they would burn a sofa or two. you know, like West Virginia students do after every home game. that's a major attack on American values.
U*NC is the cleanest most honest athletic program on the planet. I am jealous of their deserved success, and I'm a mewling cunt.

Read some of the articles in New York media (not NYT) and see how "blocking a sidewalk" is putting hard working entrepreneurs out of business and/or causing them to lay people off.

I am pro-hippy. But when it's decided that they must either (a) unblock a pathway or (b) move to another area, then they should - peacefully. When they refuse and the cops calmly explain to each that force will be used, they have to expect that they either comply or force will be used. Damn, they were told, "Just move a few feet over, and even though you didn't get a permit, we'll look the other way - protest to your heart's content." They didn't want that. Their protest hinged on blocking the path and entrance to the building because they KNEW the cops would be forced to deal with them.
As far as the 'go away for 30 minutes and they'll leave' thing: There may have been a time when you could count on protestors to disperse "after 30 minutes". That's not a certainty anymore.
So, with this case, both sides got what they wanted. The hippies wanted to be sprayed or tazed or whatever to make the news or be uploaded on YouTube, and the cops wanted the area clear.

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
Literal beacons of the "green" energy movement, giant wind turbines have been one of the renewable energy sources of choice for the US government, which has spent billions of taxpayer dollars subsidizing their construction and use across the country. But high maintenance costs, high rates of failure, and fluctuating weather conditions that affect energy production render wind turbines expensive and inefficient, which is why more than 14,000 of them have since been abandoned.
Before government subsidies for the giant metals were cut or eliminated in many areas, wind farms were an energy boom business. But in the post-tax subsidy era, the costs of maintaining and operating wind turbines far outweighs the minimal power they generate in many areas, which has left a patchwork of wind turbine graveyards in many of the most popular wind farming areas of the US.
"Thousands of abandoned wind turbines littered the landscape of wind energy's California 'big three' locations which include Altamont Pass, Tehachapin and San Gorgonio, considered among the world's best wind sites," writes Andrew Walden of the American Thinker. "In the best wind spots on earth, over 14,000 turbines were simply abandoned. Spinning, post-industrial junk which generates nothing but bird kills...."
...This whole wind energy mess just further illustrates how the American people have been played by their elected officials who bought into the "global warming" hysteria that spawned the push for wind energy in the first place. And now that the renewable energy tax subsidies are gradually coming to an end in some places, the true financial and economic viability, or lack of wind energy, is on display for the world to see.
"It is all about the tax subsidies," writes Don Surber of the Charleston Daily Mail. "The blades churn until the money runs out. If an honest history is written about the turn of the 21st century, it will include a large, harsh chapter on how fears about global warming were overplayed for profit by corporations."

If you don't see the difference between that example and what's in the video, then there is really no need for further discussion. We'll just have to agree to disagree on whether the use of pepper spray was appropriate in this instance.
I trust, however, that you will at least admit that they were given fair warning and that they chose to be pepper sprayed rather than comply with the law and move off of the path. And I trust you will acknowledge that whoever posted the video that left out that warning did so with the willful intent to keep the whole story from being told.

If you can't discern the difference in motivation of an old lady and a bunch of anarchist/communist/greenies, well you're a sad little fella.

Wind turbines kill birds? What bastard came up with those things??!!
How much maintenance could they need? There's no fuckin motor. A zerk fitting for grease should keep the prop gear and bearings good for at least a year. Sounds like one more thing we've spent tax dollars on so people could quit when the subsidies run out. No sense in trying to make a profit without the government paying their fair share to your bottom line.

Wind turbines don't kill birds, corporations kill birds.

That's right, tasering them would have been more environmentally friendly....Just hook them up to a Chevy Volt.

Yeah cause that wouldn't have cause any issues either.

Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

DOE - Oak Ridge wrote the book on protest control (5-6 decades of dealing with people upset about Hiroshima will give you a lot of insight). The first rule: non-violence is met with non-violence. Lt. riot-gear-guy firing on a sit-in wouldn't have been tolerated. A real Barney Fife move - he'd be given his walking papers.

Not trying to convince you of anything. I could post the thoughts from the cops supposed mind:" I could be at Krispys right now but instead I have to deal with this hippie who's daddy makes 12 times more than I do? Um, No. Spray that bitch sitting in purple because the Vikings suck!BigRedMan wrote:Convince me I am not telling the truth Rat. People have screamed and went to court over shit just like that.
