Totally agree. If the ISI hadn't been protecting him, he would have been dead long ago.Dr. Strangelove wrote:This city where he was in hiding is apparently a big army installation. Fuck them. May be true that Pakistani intelligence helped us get him, but he's undoubtedly been getting help from others in the same agencies for 10 years

Sources saying it was U.S. Navy Seals in helicopter raid.

VolTone, your post was apparently scooped up by the NSA. You'll probably get a visit tomorrow morning.

One of the things Obama ran on was that we had taken our eyes off of Afghanistan and Osama Bin Laden in going into Iraq and that he was going to put more men (he did) and emphasis on those factors.
Whatever it is, glad to see Osama dead.
Expect some attempted response by al Queda in the next month

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
We've had plenty of assets devoted to finding Bin Laden since 9/11. It just took longer than we would have liked. If Obama had really done anything differently than Bush, it stands to reason that it wouldn't have taken him almost 2 and-a-half years to find OBL. It was our military and intelligence folks who accomplished this. It was only a matter of time. Bush started it. Obama finished it. Credit goes to both of them.
It's sad that this will quickly be politicized. Let's all just enjoy this moment while it lasts.

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
LOL. Sure he did. He escalated the war and U.S. presence in Afghanistan significantly (increasing the military presence there 3-fold). And 2 years would be about right if it was only based upon that escalation. Still, one can't say cause and effect. This may be totally unrelated to the increased money, effort and personnel in Afghanistan, Obama may not deserve all the credit, but hey, he gets some simply for approving this weekends operation. To just discount that President Obama did reemphasize Afghanistan and Bin Laden would be an error.
This isn't politics, nor is it a criticism. Give the President his due.

From George Bush:
Nearly a decade later, Bush got the call that he had been hoping to receive since September 11.
“Earlier this evening, President Obama called to inform me that American forces killed Osama bin Laden,” Bush said in a statement released late Sunday.
Bush said he congratulated President Obama and the U.S. forces “who devoted their lives to this mission” to find bin Laden.
“This momentous achievement marks a victory for America,” Bush said.
The former president said Obama and American forces “have our everlasting gratitude.”

I already gave Obama his due. I've consistently given him credit for continuing Bush's policies in the War on Terror.Owlman wrote:LOL. Sure he did. But to draw a conclusion based on Obama supposedly "emphasizing" Afghanistan is a joke. For one thing, Obama could afford to "emphasize" Afghanistan, because Iraq was winding down by the time he took office. And this operation will turn out to have been accomplished by a relatively small group of military and intelligence people whose numbers are probably roughly the same as those who were engaged in this endeavor during the Bush administration. This operation did not take place in Afghanistan. It was launched from a base inside Pakistan and the entire operation took place inside Pakistan. This was a victory for the U.S.A., period.
Obama gave Bush credit and Bush gave Obama credit. That's the way it should be.

LOL. Tough on you isn't it. You've conveniently forgotten Bush administration saying near the end of his term that killing/capturing Bin Laden was not a major priority. Congrats to the intelligence community, who has been working on this for a long time, congrats to President Obama for the courage to go into Pakistan (an ally) to do this and congrats to Bin Laden for finding out about his bunch of virgins.

I like what David Gergen said, sooner or later people are going determine how long Pakistan's intelligence knew Osama Bin Laden lived there.

Tough on me? I'm happy. This is a great night. I'm celebrating the good news. You, on the other hand, seem to be too wrapped-up in political partisanship to be able to enjoy it for what it is. I pity you. There's more to life than politics, you know.Owlman wrote:LOL. Tough on you isn't it.
