Newt should at least get a medal for saving America all by himself.

Republicans lost five seats in the House in the 1998 midterm elections - the worst performance in 64 years for a party that didn't hold the presidency. Polls showed that Gingrich and the GOP's attempt to remove President Clinton from office was widely unpolular among Americans. Gingrich suffered much of the blame for the election loss. Facing another rebellion in the Republican caucus, he announced on November 6, 1998 that he would not only stand down as Speaker, but would leave the House as well. Commenting on his departure, Gingrich said, "I'm willing to lead but I'm not willing to preside over people who are cannibals. My only fear would be that if I tried to stay, it would just overshadow whovever my successor is."

Personal scandals, the ethics sanctions, the resignation...., but yeah, in this whacky gop field he may actually be the last to stand with Romney as some of you are saying.

If we could just get a candidate who was good and didn't have skeletons in his closet that would be great. If he's good, I'll take the skeletons. The guy you keep trying to beatify (Clinton) had more skeletons than a cemetary.

I know, I know...it only matters when we're talking about a Republican.

That's because there is not an expectation of ethics with a Democratic candidate..

Go Cain Go. Numbers are going up and financing going up after the scandal. Love to see him get the nomination.

As for Jindal; Jindal lost significant clout after his Howdy Doody moment. He had a huge war chest and no Republican was going to challenge him as a result. The state Democratic party is not viable at all right now. The interesting thing is that while he had a big landslide he isn't personally that popular in Louisiana. Louisiana governor position is one of the strongest in the country. He actually has a say so in who heads the major committees in the legislature. He's markedly cut both health care and education in Louisiana. Significant brain drain in Louisiana as it remains one of the poorer states despite what should be significant oil revenues
My Dad is my hero still.

It's the whining that's the best. For sheer entertainment value, you can't beat the constant strains of bias, unlevel playing fields and "fixes" continuously being "in." It's music to the ears..

Bimbo eruptions are skeletons in the closet. Clinton had his adulterous peccadillos and so did Newt (at the same time as he was dogging Bill about one of his, ironically).

Getting mad at colleagues for discussing replacing you as Speaker of the House...and then quitting the House altogether in a fit of pique - that's not a skeleton in the closet. That's desertion. Something his first couple of wives got a taste of...ahead of his constituents.

If America could forgive Clinton for his dozen or so known mistresses, then we should forgive Newt too.

I recall something like 18 straight months of economic growth during Dubya's administration. And people like you screamed bloody murder the whole time.

But you're quick to take any signal as a positive sign now that your guy is in office.
It was right at 48 straight months of job growth. For the record.

Exactly. He could talk about and the left was fine cause they never would have voted it in for him to sign.

His political life on 96 was more important and he signed it. Same with cap gains cuts.

He does deserve credit for signing them.

Credit for surpluses? Not so much. Internet and y2k get that credit.

Well. Crazy was the theme...but yeah, he's more clownish than crazy.
