Re: SEC - Conference Discussion
SEC rankings:
1. LSU. 8-0 (5-0). What LSU did to a decent Auburn team is obscene. If the MPAA rated football games this contest would have been rated R (for gratuitous violence). Clear #1 here. LSU is too good to fail. Next: Bye.
2. Alabama. 8-0 (5-0). Last week I wrote "another game where the Tide looked sluggish in the first half, but came alive in the second half" - anyone noticing a trend? Against Ole Miss and Tennessee, that's okay. Against LSU, if we do continue with this, it's a loss. Next: Bye.
3. Arkansas. 6-1 (2-1). Struggled mightily with Ole Miss, but rallied from 17 points down to win - as good teams do. Next: @Vandy.
4. South Carolina. 6-1 (4-1). Off this week and trying to come up with a plan to replace Lattimore. Next: @Tennessee.
5. Georgia. 5-2 (4-1). Off this week. Next: TWLOCP.
6. Auburn. 5-3 (3-2). Gutted by the Tigers. Was not a pretty game for the men in orange and blue. Next: Ole Miss.
7. Florida. 4-3 (2-3). Off this week. Next: TWLOCP.
8. Tennessee. 3-4 (0-4). Played Bama close for a half. This team is young and injured, but has the core of a good team. Next: South Carolina.
9. Vandy. 4-3 (1-3). Whooped Army by 23. Next: Arkansas.
10. Miss State. 3-4 (0-4). Off this week. Next: Cripple fight @Kentucky.
11. Ole Miss. 2-5 (0-4). Jumped out to a big lead vs the Hogs and blew it. Next: Auburn.
12. Kentucky. 3-4 (0-3). Beat Jacksonville State. Next: Cripple fight with Miss State.

Re: SEC - Conference Discussion
#1 rated HS QB Gunner Kiel has backed off his commitment to Indiana. Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU, and Notre Dame were in the mix before his commitment to the Hoosiers. Bama could definately use him

Agreed re: Kiel.
I wonder if he should sign with Alabama, we'll see P. Sims depart? I hope not.

Poor Indiana. If they gave even 1/10th of a damn about their football program...

They kinda expected that to happen. They do give a damn but they have to win some before others start giving a damn. I like Wilson and think he will be fine here in a couple of years.
Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Man that guy did some stunning analysis.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.
I've thought for a while that one of Georgia's biggest problems-- maybe their biggest problem, at least in terms of making the leap from good to great-- is that they can't seem to get their best players to stay for their senior seasons. You're always going to lose a fair amount of elite prospects to the draft early, but it seems that almost every Georgia kid projected to go in the first four rounds declares for the draft. They lose kids that should stay and mature a little more, and as a result, they always look like a team that's a year away.

Re: SEC - Conference Discussion
Georgia and Texas are probably the biggest culprits of recruiting champs and season flops. Texas won a title in 2005, but one title in the BCS era with the recruits and money they have is worse than Georgia's two SEC titles and one BCS at large bid. Both suck ass though. UCLA should be ashamed of itself and so should Clemson. Clemson may work it out this year, but I doubt it.

Re: SEC - Conference Discussion
UNC's recruiting under Butch was never what it was being touted as. he only had 1 top-ten class and the majority of that class didnt get to play it's senior year. Al Groh recruited better than Butch while he was at UVa, and he had a 10 win season and a couple of bowl victories to prove it. Clemson, FSU and Miami always seemed to be top-15 year in, year out without a whole lot to show for it the last few years.
U*NC is the cleanest most honest athletic program on the planet. I am jealous of their deserved success, and I'm a mewling cunt.
Al Groh won a couple of bowl games, but he never had a 10-win season at UVa. Groh's teams won nine in 2003 and 2007, and he did a really good job with the talent he had his first three years or so. I'd agree he did more with what he had than Davis ever did at UNC.

Re: SEC - Conference Discussion
Our recruiting was overrated, a ridiculous % of our highly rated recruits never made it to school or got kicked out quickly.Clemson, FSU and Miami always seemed to be top-15 year in, year out without a whole lot to show for it the last few years.
This was Before Jimbo, so far his recruiting has been outstanding and the players look solid. The turnaround in the defensive line has been remarkable, we've gone from a Bottom 10 DL to a Top 10 DL in just a couple of years.

Are you daring to suggest the last few seasons under Bobby were less than saintly?

no, what I think kevi is saying is that the last few years under Bobby (before Jimbo) the recruiting was not adequate - saintliness had nothing to do with it
