Driving back from NOLA yesterday, heard a story on the radio about the issues some of the Occupy Wallstreet people are having. Apparently, hobos are migrating in great numbers to eat the free food and it's pissing the Occupy folks off. Some food lines have cut the homeless interlopers off or will only give them rice (not the full meal). Others have recruited a de facto security team from the Occupy crowd to pull those people outta line.

Listening to one of the Occupy people on this was pretty funny. When questioned about such a hard-line stance, he said something along the lines of, 'you don't understand. These people are not productive ...at all! They just want to use up our resources and give nothing back in return!'

I about drove off the road I was laughing so hard.

Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

bluetick wrote:Facts are often fudged around here, actually. Like the assertion that Clinton was dragged into welfare reform...hell, one of his famous campaign themes in '92 was to "end welfare as we know it." As governor he did the same thing in Arkansas - toughening work requirements and limiting benefit periods, ultimately removing several thousands from the roles. What he pushed through as prez resulted in 7-8 million ultimately coming off welfare.
He didn't push anything through. The GOP Congress tried several times to push through the reform that Clinton ultimately signed. He was dragged, kicking and screaming. It took seeing the political writing on the wall before he reluctantly signed the bill. I don't care how long he talked about it. All that matters is the timeline of when he did something about it and who pushed it through.

Clinton talked about it in '92. The GOP took over the Congress in '95 and immediately began pushing welfare reform for real. Clinton eventually signed it in '96 (after kicking and screaming for a year-and-a-half). Sorry, but them's the facts.

BTW, thanks for offering a perfect example of what you guys mean when you accuse me of getting the facts wrong. Much appreciated.

I have a theory about that. I think he finally, after years of free education at PNN, saw that he had been wrong all these years. He couldn't admit that, of course, so he just faded away.

'You're headed for a one-term presidency," Steve Jobs told President Obama at the beginning of a one-on-one session the president requested early last year. As described in the authorized biography by Walter Isaacson, Apple's founder said regulations had created too many burdens on the economy.

BILL CLINTON WAS RIGHT
by Robert Rector, The Heritage Foundation

As a conservative analyst who spent much of the 1990s working against most of Bill Clinton's agenda -- including some aspects of his welfare reform proposals -- it pains me to say this.

Bill Clinton was right.

He deserves more credit for the passage of welfare reform than most conservatives probably care to admit.

To fully understand Clinton's role in the passage of this landmark legislation, one must go back to the early days of the 1992 presidential campaign when Clinton first began trying out his welfare themes. According to New York Times reporter Jason DeParle, Clinton regarded his welfare message as the "all-purpose elixir" of his campaign for the presidency.

It was a values message, an economic message and a policy message all in one. And it generated more interest than any other topic Clinton addressed.

Good article...and interesting admissions from a Clinton foe. It's almost like he was speaking to one skeptic in particular..heh.

Did I call this or what?
Professor Tiger wrote: But if the Dem's ever think Cain has a genuine chance at the nomination, watch out. Professor Tiger wrote:I bet the MSM have already lined up a whole platoon of Anita Hill types, who will make up some wild tales about Cain, for fun and profit. Especially profit:

Democratic Senator of the Senate Committee Investigating Candidate Cain: "C'mon, honey, you've got to try and tell us..."
