I know he deserves more respect than this but whenever I hear Herman Cain focus on his 9-9-9 plan, I can't help but think of this

When deputies arrived, some of the animals we're just sitting calmly by their cages. Deputies had to shoot them (no way to round them up). Seems a shame. Those animals were probably semi-domesticated. Just chilling in front of their cages and wondering when they would be fed again. Then "boom!"

yea, I hate to hear it.

I 'm of a mindset its pointless to shoot an animal that doesn't represent meat on the table.

plus, Lions/Grizzlies - in the wilderness together - I think the Goatpen needs a road trip to Zanesvilles

Yeah, eCat. That comparison has been made several times.

And the rent is still too damn high!

"Lion."
Well we know a bear didn't get him.

I do understand what the deputies were faced with. They have a mauled body on the ground and dangerous animals already wandering around town and are faced with these animals outta their cages. I'm sure I would have done the same thing. Apparently there are 4 schools close by.

Appparently Ohio has the laxest dangerous/exotic animal laws in the US. That might need to be looked at.

Yep. Wouldn't have been anything left if the Grizz had done it. It would just be a missing person case.

probably true - still, if an animal is sitting next to each cage waiting for a bowl of cat food, does it really need to be shot for the safety of the public?

I get that. The problem is that they couldn't guard the animals and wait to see if they were gonna make a move. They had to get out in the town and get the ones running around.

So, your choices at that point:

1) leave them outta their cages and unattended and hope they don't wander off/eat someone.

2) stay and guard them until the zoo people arrive with tranq guns - which would delay the search for the animals on the loose.

3) put 'em down.

This place is about 20 miles from Zanesville, so maybe instead of chasing the tigers and such down, they could just wait near the fence.

Hopefully one of the cops was black, and hopefully someone had the presence of mind to tell him what usually happens to "the black guy" at this point in the movie.

Just send out about 10 tabby cats, they will round up the bears without any issue.

If they are young black bears, they would probably run. If they are grizzlies, they have already eaten the lions and tigers and would use the tabbies as a sorbet to cleanse their palletes before eating the wolves.

I think the dude went inside his house and shot himself. I don't think he hung around smiling at one of the chimps (they hate that) until it fucked him up.

I just read they shot 18 bengal tigers. There are only about 1400 in the world. Sad.

The report I heard said he cut the cages so they couldn't be used again and shot himself in the yard and that here were several animals around him when officers arrived.
Sheriff Lutz from the Muskingum County Sheriff Department has confirmed in a 3:00 pm press conference that 56 animals were on the loose after being set free by Terry Thompson, who was found dead on the property. Sheriff Lutz says they have killed one wolf, six black bears, two grizzly bears, nine male lions, eight lionesses, one baboon, one mountain lion, and eighteen tigers. One grizzly bear, three leopards, and two monkeys were transported to the Columbus Zoo. Still on the loose are a grey wolf,.along with a rabid monkey who may have Herpes B. If you come in contact with either of these animals you are advised not to approach them, and call 9-1-1 immediately.

Still, it was grim work, Mr. Lutz said, with many of the officers saying it would be difficult to explain to their children why they had to kill the animals.

“No one hates to see animals destroyed more than me; but I do understand both sides of this story. The police can't possibly be expected to train for every kind of emergency. They simply had to act quickly.”

Efforts to tranquilize some animals failed. In one incident Wednesday morning, a veterinarian tried to tranquilize a 300-pound tiger, Mr. Lutz said. "This thing just went crazy. It started to run into the wooded area and our officers took it down."

"What was done had to be done," said Jack Hanna, a television wildlife host and director emeritus of the Columbus Zoo, who appeared beside the sheriff. "It's a tragedy beyond belief."

Six animals inside Mr. Thompson's home were transferred to a zoo, Mr. Lutz said. All the destroyed animals were buried on the property.
