they had tryouts for that Kentucky team. If you didn't make the team, the coach just handed you a lump of coal.

That's Bynum Hall (formerly Bynum Gymnasium), the first home of Carolina Basketball. It still sits in the heart of campus. I stopped and took a picture the day after we won the National Championship in 2017. It was the University cashier's office when I was at Carolina in the 80s.
It was the cashier's office when I was at Carolina, but they started the multi-billion dollar renovation project during my time which changed a lot of stuff. I think Bynum houses graduate admissions or some such now.
I proudly took AFAM 040 at Carolina.

Looks like both UK and UNC put the short runt who appears to be in his 30's at the front left. Also, what's up with those rolled down socks? If they rolled them up they'd go halfway up their thighs...
