The US GIs butchered those Russian mercs working for Wagner group. We had no casualties and we wiped them out. More to the point, Putin got the call from Trump in 2017. Trump asked him, are these guys moving on the refinery in Syria that we are defending, are those your troops? Putin said no. Trump said thank you and hung up the phone. Then Trump called the General in command and told him to kill them all. So they did.

That was a gamble on Putin's part but it didn't cost him anything. Putin does not give a fuck if Russian mercenaries or Russia troops die, not as long as he remains in power. He faces no political consequences when Russians die. If you knew anything about that culture, you would understand why. If Putin sends Wagner into Ukraine, the exact same thing that happened in Syria would happen in Ukraine if we are defending mineral rights that (hopefully) Zelenskyy signs over to the USA. That will end the war. What do you want Trump to do if not that? This is a brilliant idea, we garrison our financial interest in Ukraine! All Zelenskyy wants is more of your tax money without any oversight on how it is spent. That is because he is immature and he doesn't care how many Ukrainians continue to die. We have given Russia no money. We have given Ukraine $350 billion and Zelenskyy used some of that money to send Ukrainian models to modelling shoots in NYC and Paris. That is what he thinks of his own people and this war. That is not a serious leader. But we can still save him. Trump is willing to get mineral rights and have USA mining corporations work the very Ukrainian real estate that Russia is fighting to Annex. We have given Putin.... nothing. And if Trump gets his way, Putin gets less than nothing. He loses everything he is fighting to take.

1) Trump and Putin did not speak over the phone during the refinery incident. Military commanders did speak over the de-escalation line after the Russians had attacked. The Russians denied everything, which allowed the US to send in air support.

2) We definitely sided with Russia at the UN:

The Article 5 wording is vague. It states that an attack against one member “shall be considered an attack against them all.” What is quoted less often is that each member state only has an obligation to take “such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force.”

What’s the point of having NATO when you’re expected to help countries who are not in NATO, like Ukraine? It makes the alliance meaningless.

I keep hearing about “indirect benefits” to the US by being the world’s peacekeeper, but no one can really state what specifically that is, because it doesn’t exist. In fact, it costs us more than benefits. There is no security interest to the US in wasting money on the Ukraine War.

As far as the debt goes, when interest payments exceed tax revenue coming in, that’s when shit hits the fan because no one will buy US bonds if it can’t be paid back. Govt could print money, but inflation will skyrocket.
Most likely taxes will have to double for Everyone. Just look at the tax brackets in Europe and 1950s US. Even the poor paid a lot.

You can't drop 400K federal employees into the unemployed ranks and cut government spending that drives an economy without it paying a price,

but in the long run it will strengthen America with less government bloat and a more realistic GDP, and it will also drive down inflation.

I hope the tariffs don't last long but any Canadian politician who is "exacting revenge" against America for the tariffs is hurting his country, and while it may play well with the masses now, its not going to end well for them.

I expect Mexico to fall in line quickly. Europe will not and both the US and Europe will suffer, not only from tariffs but the reality they now have to pay for defense of not only their own country but that of Ukraine. That will last about 2 months and then they'll throw a fit with Zelensky as well behind close doors to accept a peace deal.

We shut the economy down for two months, and then averted the economic disaster that would normally be caused by such a thing by giving away monopoly money for people to inject into the economy for a year after that, which is why runaway inflation has been a thing ever since then. They managed to grow the government every year since then, with government job growth the primary driver of the economy for the last 4 years. So, yeah we're gonna see what happens. IMO, the economic policies championed by both sides are just desperation kicks against the tide to continue trying to avert disaster.

Russia is dying, even before the war. This ain’t no Soviet Union or WW2 Germany. Russia’s GDP is only $2 Trillion. There are 5 European countries, individually, that have more than that. All together, Euro’s GDP is $19 Trillion. 10x more than Russia. Russia may take Ukraine but they can’t takeover any significant part of Europe, let alone be a threat to us. The only threat Russia is to us is cyber related. Militarily? zero threat.

I agree with that, it is just a reality that our most important allies worldwide right now are Japan, South Korea, Australia, The Philippines, and Taiwan. We may have more European allies in terms of sheer quantity, but even with the flare ups currently happening in that neighborhood (Eastern Europe and the Middle East), they dont affect us as much as they would have even 15 years ago, because our own energy situation has almost completely changed since then.

Russia is an aggressive, arguably rogue state. I don't like the anti-Ukraine propaganda on the right, but I think it is also true that we are playing a super dangerous game with Russia. To me there is absolutely no reason, in the long term that the Russian Far East (ie everything from Lake Baikal to the Pacific and Alaska, population only 7 million) should need to be dominated by Moscow and not Beijing, if Russia is actually thrown into total turmoil and weakness.

"Runaway" inflation has been a thing ever since? This is almost as bad as IB calling Cinci a serious powerhouse. Inflation in the US topped out at over 9% in June 2022, exactly one year later it was down to 3% and didn't go over 3.7% for the next year.
