Hedge is reduced to being happy about people who voted for Trump and are pissed because Trump is doing what he said he'd do.

Collectively we've all complained about government subsidies to farmers on here for years, for me, especially the mandated ethanol that ruins small engines.

Now farmers are also upset because they don't have any illegals showing up for work. Transient workers were an accepted norm in America for decades until liberals decided to flood the rest of America with them. Now the farmers are paying the price for filling the cities with immigrants who wouldn't pick a head of lettuce if their freedom depended on it.

Kash Pater gets confirmed as head of the FBI and one of the first things he starts talking about it is unconditional support of Israel

Back in the 1950s and early 1960s, back before we were flooded with illegals, high school students all across this country used to harvest crops for small farms. They would leave class at the end of the day, walk to a farm, put in 2 or 3 hours of work for some quick cash, go home and do their homework. It was so common, there were movies made about it.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055279/

Today, these kids can only stare at fucking screens and get TikTok brain. Work? Ha! They get home from school and tell "Rosa" to make them a quesadilla while they make another TikTok. Eventually, Trump will deport Rosa and the kids will have to make their own quesadilla and Gen-Alpha would find itself becoming Gen-X in their self reliance, real fast.

But if I was a farmer, I wouldn't give up. There is cheap labor out there. I would be hitting up the high school principals and guidance departments and asking (in fact begging) them to reach out to the students and ask them to show up at my fields for just a couple hours a day and pick whatever I planted. Work whatever deal you can.

We can go back.

I don't know what the New York dairy farmers are going to do. If Trump has ICE raid them (and he should), they are fucked. A dairy farm is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week, operation. And the price of a gallon of milk does not come anywhere near to what it would be on the open market if the farmer had to pay US citizens to shovel shit and milk cows at 3AM. So, pretty much every upstate New York dairy farm is a criminal enterprise.

Working a dairy farm is kind of like all those Filipinos and Indonesians working on cruise ships. You LIVE at work (because the employer has to give you room and board for free for you to even consider what they are offering.) You never get a day off, and you work long days. Non stop. Month after month. For shit pay. Only ignorant, uneducated, 3rd world peasants who can't do anything else, would ever consent to subject their bodies to that kind of laborious abuse.

At the moment Saint this is all about cutting spending not raising taxes. Of course a tariff is a tax you pay on an imported anything.

I highly doubt it. The kids here in my somewhat-affluent small town would die before working fast food, much less picking crops. There are a few exceptions, for sure…some entrepreneurial kids have their own lawn services, or landscaping, or car detailing…jobs where they make their own hours and get paid in cash. The majority, though, are either immersed in athletics or Tik Tok.

You are probably correct. Parents need to stop giving the kids allowance. Then the kids would have to work. I never got an allowance.

Really what this is, are parents having too much expendable money for their kids who are free to live freely. Mention this to the parents enabling their children to live this way and they get indignant saying getting grades is far more important than having their children exploited by a business owner for so little cash, a business owner who once relied on criminal labor to be in business and now, can’t. And really what it is, is the other parent’s kids should sacrifice not your own. It was kind of like that in 1967 when you paid to send your son to college so he didn’t have to be sent to die in Vietnam with the sons from poorer families.

I think you can leave Hedge and I out of that "collective" because I believe in government subsidies for agriculture, and given Hedge's career and past posts, I suspect he does as well. Without subsidies, there would be no family farms and our food sources would be more vulnerable. The diversification in growing areas fostered by subsidies helps protect our ability to withstand various droughts, diseases, etc that affect our plants and animals because we are able to ensure that the products are coming from diversified areas.

Yes, those kids working 2-3 hours per day are as productive as adults working full-time.

Also, outside of some forms of produce, there is very little harvesting done by hand now.

This basically describes about 75% of all farming in this country. Who do you think is gonna do it now?

This is true, I was mostly referring to animal farming, which is what IB was talking about. But even the areas of farming that are mostly mechanized still rely on cheap immigrant labor for picking and esp. processing...

True, but even that is mechanized more and more, and a you're seeing more and more mechanizaiton in meat production, especially with swine and poultry

I know quite a bit about this actually. More than you, counsellor.
DooKSucks wrote: Fri Feb 21, 2025 2:55 pm Yes, those kids working 2-3 hours per day are as productive as adults working full-time.
No. They are not. That is why you have 100 of them clearing a field of melons for a couple hours instead of 10 illegals working 12 hour days.

You ever work a fruit orchard? I have. And I don't just mean apple trees on the weekend with the other tourists having "fun" nor do I mean wandering around Cranberry bogs in Massachusetts. Nor do I mean a Massachusetts pumpkin patch which is more a tourist trap with a corn maze than an actual, farm. Spend some time harvesting peaches and look around at who is with you. Or watermelon. Or cherries.
DooKSucks wrote: Fri Feb 21, 2025 2:55 pm Also, outside of some forms of produce, there is very little harvesting done by hand now.
Which is EXACTLY where the illegals are working when they work on a farm. You don't have 19 year old Jose from Guatemala operate your $690,000 wheat combine harvesting your 1000 acres. Nor is he harvesting 2000 acres of corn on your $890,000 John Deer. Are you fucking high counsellor? Jose picks lettuce. Or watermelons. Or tomatoes. Or shovels cow shit in upstate New York. With Pedro, Arturo, Giarmo, Fernando, and Armando. A little hard to mechanize that kind of work.

ICE knows where to make these farm busts. Its just a matter of time before the call goes out to do so. They probably have the motel rooms already booked in Greeley Colorado for when ICE arrives. We have the political will now and the support of the American people to end this criminal enterprise, bullshit. Price of produce, beef, and milk, it is going up!

Dems are equally stupid about Transgender Men in womens sports. Polling suggests that 60% of their base is against it

and ironically some of the biggest voices in favor of it are Democratic Women.

which just goes to show you we should have never given them the right to vote
