my wife told me that one thing she appreciates about me is that I keep my ear hair trimmed.

somewhere around 55, ear and eyebrow hair starts taking on the consistency of toothbrush bristle

I thought Dubai was in April, turns out its this weekend. Haven't put much thought into other than buying some travel size soap and shaving cream

My nose hairs are extremely thick these days. It hurts more when I pull them out.
I proudly took AFAM 040 at Carolina.

Just got great news, outstanding news. My daughter was given acceptance to Veterinary school. In just a few short years, she could be an animal doctor.

I am a very, VERY proud father.

I religiously police my ear hair but those things grow inches by the hour. The satisfaction that comes from a mirrorless extraction of a twisty black ear hair by its wispy tip is on par with landing a rainbow trout on the fly

the best route is tweezers but you start getting in the root and it makes my eyes water.

I have these clipper that fit right in the ear. Used them this morning matter of fact.

You are right though, ear hair seems to grow crazy fast

I've got long hair now so it keeps getting in the way. I'm sure there's some fun ones buried behind there.

My mom swore by Ivermectin.

She was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer almost 5 years ago. Who knows how long she had it before then…she never went to the doctor, so no regular checkups. The only way it was discovered is when she finally went to the doctor after having back pain for weeks after a car wreck.

She was full blown MAGA, and full blown conspiracy theorist. It was comical to hear some of the shit that came out of her mouth…stuff like Oprah was beheaded at Guantanamo, Biden is dead and that’s a robot, numerous references to “the cabal”…

She has taken Ivermectin religiously throughout her chemo treatments, and swears it has added years to her life. Her doctors did nothing to dissuade her of that, so who knows whether it did or not.

About 3 weeks ago, I took her for a CT due to dizziness, which was making walking difficult for her. The CT quickly became an MRI, which discovered not only a bleed on the back of her brain, but the spread of the cancer to her brain, skull, and spinal cord. Leptomeningeal cancer is a death blow. It hits hard and works quickly.

She went to hospice after 3 days in the hospital. She spent almost 3 weeks there, and passed away yesterday morning around 3am. She was alone, as she would have wanted. The presence of me or my brother only served to persuade her to keep fighting. We said our goodbyes Tuesday night knowing that it would probably be the last time.

I know…tl, dr…but it felt good to write it out…

Dave, I appreciate what you said about your mom dying alone, as she would've wanted. I was with my mom when she died, also in hospice. She was out of it by then, I doubt she knew I was there but somehow I felt like I should've been. But sometime afterward I read a story, I can't remember what it was about, but somewhere in the story was a bit about the family cat dying, it said the cat left and went and laid down under a bush, so that it could die in the dignity of solitude. That phrase has always stuck with me. The dignity of solitude. That's what I thought about when you said that about your mom...

horrible to read Dave

Its reads like you made peace with it, which in the moment maybe adds some relief.

I remember the day my mom ,with my family around her , made the decision to go into hospice. I didn't know much about it at the time but I realize how hard it was to say it for herself and for the family to accept.

The day is coming for all of us, you just hope you leave it with people thankful you were part of their lives, for however long. Reads like even with some of her challenges you can say that about her.

For me losing my mom meant that I was now the adult in the room. I mean I knew I was an adult and there was very little my mother could do for her 50'ish year old son but still , it was comforting to know she was there, still being the mom. Its still pretty fresh for me, it doesn't take much for me to get emotional about it still after 2 years. Maybe that's the best and worst part of it at the same time. She's still with me.
