Re: Tennessee Volunteers
The SEC is not going to toss anyone out on such short notice, and Vandy is not going to discard something that is good for them financially. Arkansas going to swim to a sinking ship? Doubtful. Carolina jump to the mega-ACC? not going to happen within a year. The only alternative is to get another team, preferably eastern to keep the divisions manageable for travel in other sports. Clemson is my first pick, VaTech 2nd. USF would be a dark horse.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
Well, that would be one way for Tennessee to improve their W-L record in October.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
The problem with that is FSU pays their players to much. The other schools won't be able to match assuming they were to join.AlabamAlum wrote:Florida State?

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
hate to admit it but OF might have a point - I thought the ACC refs were the worst in the country but have to admit that the SEC refs seem to be no better - and let's not talk about mountain west refs...

Bad news for the Vols...

It's always bad news when Charles Robinson is in the byline of a story about your football program. On a related note, I'd love to see schools be able to sue coaches that get them in trouble with the NCAA. It's probably not a good idea, but still, I'd think UT would have a great case against Lane Kiffin and company.

With respect to SEC expansion, I would think the three most likely candidates at this point would be West Virginia, Louisville, and Missouri. Missouri's been shopping for a ticket out of the Big XII for years now, and either WVU or Louisville would be grateful for a lifeboat now that the Big East's football ship is definitively sinking. If the SEC is looking to go to 16 eventually, they could take all three of those teams quickly, preserve geographic balance, and strengthen the league even more by doing so-- WVU, Louisville and Missouri wouldn't help raise the football profile, if such a thing was even possible, but they wouldn't hurt it, and they'd help a lot with basketball. Clemson and Florida State would be more attractive football options, of course, but the ACC's recent expansion and buyout increase take them off the table, IMO-- if Clemson and FSU were looking to move, they wouldn't have voted to make leaving more expensive. I can state with a good deal of certainty that Virginia Tech isn't looking to move to the SEC, and won't entertain an invitation unless several other ACC schools are involved in a move.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
I agree with much of what you say; however, I don't think a buyout of $20M takes a team off the table with regard to the SEC.

Re: Bad news for the Vols...
Great. Just freaking great. I guess this boils down to whether or not UT did this all the time prior to Lane's tenor here. If so, then UT is a problem and we are in deep trouble. If investigators can only show this happened during Lane's stay and Lyles (or anyone else) only did this during that time frame, I say we send a pack of attorney's to USC and Lyles house to have it out with them. Between coaching changes everytime the wind blows, people bad mouthing us in the recruiting ranks, and NCAA investigations, this has got to have an adverse affect on our recruiting. This is hurting us, bad, and it's got to come to a stop.JRB wrote:http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/n ... are_092611

With all the nonsense running around about Lane, you've got to feel a bit bad for USC. You know the NCAA will be looking at them hard for a long time. With the issues that will always surround Kiffin and Comp., USC will be in and out of probation so much they will never be bowl eligible.
