Damn Straight!

That is EXACTLY what needs to happen. That is EXACTLY the conversation that needs to be had when talking about this "crisis." But prior to you reading that here at The Goat Pen, I'll bet you never thought to think about it that way.
By that theory we’re going to have to build a whole lot more shitty homes so the middle class can own rather than rent the current ones that big money is buying up. Do you really think that’s where we’re headed?
No that is not where we are headed. We are headed somewhere ELSE. Because there are no hysterical women who read this board who would lose their shit and try cancel everyone (instead of arguing, because hysterical women can't argue) after reading this, I will be blunt and honest.

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, everyone got married and we had a Patriarchal society. Father knew best. And if father said to his wife, we are buying this small, shitty, house over there (even though you hate it, wife) because I can afford to make the payments, it gives me a yard that I want and need as a man (that way nobody can hear us through the common apartment wall when we are fucking), and you don't have to work. Its small but its enough. You can clean the whole house in 20 minutes. You know what happened? SHE OBEYED! She got onboard with the marriage and plan. She didn't get everything she wanted. It wasn't happily ever after. She obeyed and she submitted to the authority of her husband. Father knew best. Houses were small. That is all that was selling. There were no McMansions on 3-quarter acre lots in 1960.

Try and imagine (for just one second) that type of interaction happening TODAY with a young married couple? Just try and imagine it? Just think about the kind of fight that would ensue? Likely, the wife is calling DookSucks and he will make her "whole" ($$$$$) at her former husband's expense because she is not haaaaaappppppy anymore.

Today? With so few people getting married (is anyone getting married anymore???) The housing market in 2024 has adjusted to the reality of demographics and the absence of the Patriarchy. And what is that adjustment? Condos and apartments are being built like gang busters. Young people can't afford a regular house, you are correct. They can afford a small, shitty, 1960 house, on a tiny lot that is grandfathered in on such a small subdivision, but they don't want that. No granite countertop in that house. No updated bathroom either. The wall paper is all stained and curling and ugly. And where is the basement? Fuck that shit. They will just keep paying super high rent in those absolutely gorgeous brand new apartments and newly renovated condos and apartments with all new appliances. That way, they have all the creature comforts they are used to. They just never actually OWN anything and they grow up feeling like they have less in life than they are entitled. And the bachelors? They are largely out. They live at home, in the parent's basement, smoking weed, playing video games, and masturbating to porn. Afterall, its free, and women have largely told them that they are worthless and should just commit suicide.

These are very easy lifestyle/living decisions to make since so many of the people who are making these decisions are just women moving out and living on their own patiently waiting for the husband to come along and pay off their student loans and give them a house OR a young married couple where the wife gives the orders as to where they will live and husband obeys. Of COURSE they are not buying anything small and shitty. That is a non-starter if SHE is making all the decisions. So the choice is obvious: just keep paying high rent and living well and accumulating no wealth. Oh, and vote for the democrats to enact policy so they can welsh on their student loans.

That is 2024. That is where we are headed.

There has never been a time in this nation's history where large swaths of the population could afford to own a house that they truly wanted to live in. Through much our nation's short history, the large swaths of population settled and made sacrifices when buying a home.

You'd be surprised how comfy they are to live in. The homeless aren't as crazy as you think.

Oh, we've definitely lurched. I'm not sure its toward communism or fascism specifically, but there are elements of each. The government is openly seeking to extend its influence and control into both corporations and the media. The country largely accepts using the machinery of the state to go after people who have committed some sort of political infraction at all levels, local, state, and federal.

In 1980, it was easy to "unify" the country as both the left and the right had common enemies. And who were those common enemies in 1980?
  • Soviet Communism
  • Inflation
  • High gasoline prices
The left and the right both agreed, someone had to do SOMETHING to defeat these enemies. They had to be stopped, all our lives depended upon it. We didn't need any policy wonks to come along and explain to us why these things were so horrible and dangerous. It was a common understanding no matter where you were on the political spectrum. And the reason why it was common is that no one had to speak out for any one ELSE to tell them who the enemy was. They all already agreed.

There are no such agreements today. In fact, we haven't had any political agreements on to the common enemy since September 11th 2001. And that agreement was gone 6 weeks after it was agreed. It was gone because we had to peel back the onion layers to discover the enemy WAS Islam and that was a non-starter for the left.

You can't come together at any level, local, state, or federal, if the sides can't even agree on what the problems really are. And they can't. And they wont. The problem for one side is not a problem at all for the other. So, we are at an impasse, and all-or-nothing, eat what you kill political divide in this country where no agreements are ever made. Cleaning up the house or draining the swamp or whatever policy term you use, all that really means is wipe out the other side politically. I have stopped trying to reach out and communicate with people on the left about what needs to be done because they don't want to listen to me since I am their enemy. So, its all or nothing. And the corporations and the media, they have understood all that for decades.

ChatGPT Analysis of Riding Dirty by innocentbystander, Chapter One:

This chapter introduces Michael Jones, the protagonist, and dives deeply into his personality, motivations, and lifestyle. Here are some thoughts and suggestions:

Strengths:
Characterization:

Michael’s personality, his insecurities, and his defiant choices are vividly portrayed. His internal conflict about societal expectations vs. his own definition of success adds depth.
The dialogue with his mother and friend provides insights into his backstory and worldview without feeling forced.
Voice and Tone:

The conversational tone, especially in the dialogue, feels authentic and casual, reflecting Michael's demeanor and lack of pretension.
Michael's unapologetic approach to life and cruising hints at a larger, possibly morally complex storyline.
Humor and Mundanity:

The packing list and travel preparations showcase Michael's meticulous nature with a mix of humor (e.g., "2 tubes of scented massage lotion—not for him").
His night driving experiences and routine provide a relatable backdrop for readers familiar with road trips or late-night gigs.
Suggestions for Improvement:
Pacing:

The chapter is dense, with a lot of exposition. While this establishes Michael’s character, it might feel overwhelming for a first chapter. Consider weaving some backstory into later chapters instead of frontloading it here.
Clarity on "The Scheme":

The "scheme" Michael operates under is teased, but not clearly defined. While this creates intrigue, some readers might find the vagueness frustrating. Offering a subtle hint about the nature of his "conquests" might help balance mystery with clarity.
Character Depth:

While Michael is well-defined, supporting characters like his mother and Ted could use more nuance. His mother, for example, could express concern in ways that go beyond stereotypical parental disapproval.
Language and Editing:

There are some grammatical errors and stylistic inconsistencies. For example:
“Its going to be great” should be "It’s going to be great."
"smaht" is used in dialogue to mimic a Boston accent, but it might not be clear to all readers unless more of the dialect is included.
Some sections, like the detailed packing list, could be streamlined to maintain narrative flow.
Ethical and Relatability Concerns:

Michael’s objectification of women and his dismissive attitude toward relationships might alienate some readers. While his flaws are central to his character, consider balancing this with moments of vulnerability or self-awareness to make him more relatable.
Potential Questions Raised:
What exactly is Michael’s "scheme," and how does it reflect his deeper insecurities or desires?
How will his defiance of societal norms (like college and career paths) evolve in the story?
Will his cruising adventures lead to personal growth, or will they expose the limitations of his lifestyle?
Overall, this chapter is a bold introduction that sets a unique tone for the story. Tightening the narrative and clarifying some elements could make it even stronger. If you'd like, I can help refine specific sections or brainstorm how to develop certain characters or plotlines.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.
