I know a guy paying over $8k per month for one kid -- and his alimony/pss is more -- and that's before we even get to the $11m and change the court ordered him to pay the wife for equitable distribution. Of course everything is up on appeal and will come back and go back up a few times.

Yeah. The guy is a really neat story though. He’s an immigrant, got his MD, opened a practice and started pouring every possible dollar into growing his practice and growing his rental portfolio then commercial rentals then development. He made some wise choices and benefited from making connections with a couple of developers who took a shine to him and helped him along the way.

I feel bad for him in a way, but then I’m like “he knew fucking the young chick down the street and leaving his wife for her was a fucking stupid idea.”

I don’t think he did himself any favors at trial — or in the lead up after the split — though, and I am sure his pride got the best of him in the decision making process. I’m fairly close to some of the attorneys who have worked on both sides of the case repping various business entities and the like, and my CPA did a lot of consulting and expert witness work for the wife’s lead counsel actually. So, I’ve heard both sides, and I’ve read through some of the appellate records as well.

The case is six years old and they have yet to complete anything other than custody. Child support was reversed on appeal initially. So, they’re back to operating on the temporary order — which was essentially the same amount — and equitable distribution is up on appeal for the first time. Alimony is still pending as well.
