Re: Uncle Bud
yesterday at the local Meijer I bought a Pork Prime Rib Loin. 5.5 pounds for $8.
mixed up a dry rub, seared it in a frying pan with butter, minced garlic and olive oil, then cooked it for 90 minutes at 425 in the same frying pan.
let it set covered in foil for 10 minutes while I made onion gravy. Made some mashed potatoes while it cooking. total cost about $14 with vegetables.
It was some of the best eating we've had in a long time. We also had enough left over for my son to have two lunches this week and I just finished a sandwich myself

Doesn't sound like inflation is much of a problem in Cinci. I paid $2.70/gal for gas the other day. Thanks, Biden!

Re: Uncle Bud
I had a famous bowl from KFC. Just as good as eCat's dinner, cost half as much, and I had the whole night to drink instead of cooking and cleaning like a bitch.

Re: Uncle Bud
Authority.
For the mandatory reporters who work in healthcare or education, this "Take Care of Maya" is a horror story. If you wield state-granted-authority to remove a child from their parents for suspected child abuse, you damn well better be right about child abuse. Because if you aren't, you sure as hell need to get the innocent parent to sign the infamous "case file."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Take_Care_of_Maya
The Netflix documentary was excellent. Outstanding. I have seen a lot of documentaries but this one fills in all the gaps in the story. Unfortunately, they completed the documentary just before the case went to trial
and before the judgment.
The hospital did everything they could to prolong the trial, to prevent Maya from ever speaking in court, and to prevent jury selection. Because the attorneys for the hospital knew they didn't have a defense that would hold up in a civil trial with a jury. They didn't have a defense. And why? The parents REFUSED to sign the "case file" which would have been them admitting that they were guilty of child abuse. Jurisprudence means All Children's owes the family $261,000,000, much of that, insurance will not cover by Florida state law. I don't know how a hospital can cover that kind of judgment. Big bucks. And I say good. You guys blew it. You have all the power and state authority, you were proven wrong, you fucked over and incarcerated this child, the mom committed suicide, the family is forever ruined because of your actions, now you need to pay!

Re: Uncle Bud
i haven't followed this case at all. If the hospital knew they would lose in court, how come they didn't try to settle? or did they and the family would have nothing of it.

Re: Uncle Bud
Exactly right. The family would have nothing of it.
The hospital DID try and settle. The attorney's representing the family told them (under NO circumstances) do we settle. You never ever signed the "case file" (which everyone does, which would be you admitting guilt) so, we have a winner. Let's go to court and fuck them over. They deserve it for what they did to you. And that is exactly what happened.
Dr Sarah Smith (the medical doctor that worked for the hospital AND for the Dept of Child Welfare), SHE settled out of court for $2.5 million. That was basically her entire medical malpractice insurance policy coverage. But even still, she STILL contends that this is all Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.

There is no conspiracy here. This is just a culmination of many terribly, unfortunate, circumstances.Tree wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 5:46 pmWhat's your angle on all this? Is this a Democrat conspiracy or something?innocentbystander wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 12:28 pm Authority.

- In the 1950s and 1960s, we noticed that children were being abused by their parents but there weren't any laws on the books to champion the children. Parents were all powerful
- In the 1970s, state legislators started created state laws expanding the scope and power of government to step in and remove children from their families in emergency situations
- The people with that authority to step in, they are not required to speak for both sides in court when a judge is deciding a child's fate AFTER the "emergency period" is over
- The institution with state granted authority to remove a child (the hospital) could protect itself by creating an infamous "case file" where the parents sign it admitting guilt, which IN TURN gives the parents a checklist and a scheduled date where the children would be returned to their care
- Because so many parents are shit stain child abusers, OR they just want to get their kids bas ASAP (regardless if they are guilty or not), they willingly sign the damn file to get the ball rolling as to when they get their kids back
- But in the rarest of rare circumstances where the person with state authority FUCKS UP, and the parents are Prideful and Righteous enough NOT to sign the damn "case file", NOW the authority granted to an institution (in this case, a hospital) is NOT protected from liability
But state authorities STILL contend that THEY were right to do what they did. And as evidence of this, they say.... look, mom committed suicide. Only an insane person would commit suicide. So OF COURSE we did right to take the child away from mom because she was insane. The fact that the child was in pain (and we might have gotten that call wrong) doesn't mean we were wrong to remove the child from that insane woman's care. But in a court of law, 12 jurors would never look at it that way. And the attorney's representing the hospital, they knew that. Which is why the hospital was so desperate to settle.
