Re: Uncle Bud
Eating leftover Wilber’s barbecue and coleslaw at 12am was bit of a in wise move, at least when it comes to my wife’s sleep. Apparently I farted all night long in my sleep and it kept waking her up….

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Re: Uncle Bud
A buddy of mine (with a group of other friends backing him) bought Wilbur's a few years ago when he (Wilbur) ran into trouble with the IRS. I went down there about 6 months ago and he showed me around the place. He's got an old black man who sits out there every night, all night, cooking the pigs for the next day's menu. It's basically a 24/7 operation. Excellent barbecue...
I want someone's ass blistered in the middle of Thanksgiving Square.

That guy you saw out back is one of the men who did that for Wilber too.

Re: Uncle Bud
Yeah. Don't know him personally but know of him / have seen him around. I think he lives out near / in Walnut Creek (which is where most / good number of the investors live) next to an old friend of mine. He seems like a heck of a nice guy the few times I have interacted with him, which begs the question: how the fuck did he cross paths with you and still keep up the association of his own accord?
He has done a heck of a job with the place, and the food is back close to what it once was. It's not quite what I remember from my youth -- that's likely the bias of reminiscence -- but it's damn good. It's not the same restaurant though -- nor could it have been -- and I'll forever miss that greasy, dimly lit, dark paneled, dusty place. It was the place to eat, to see and be seen at lunch time, especially the Family Table. I always felt like a bad ass when I was a little kid and would see the long line waiting to get inside -- especially on Thursday, barbecue beef day -- and Dad would park around back and slide in through the back door and go past the second set of bathrooms and through Wilber's office into the main dining room.
Dad would take me with him every now and then around 1:00pm or so when the Family Table was thinning out but still had some of the king bullshitters present. Dad would tell me to be quiet. That wouldn't last because one of the men would prod me to get me going about Carolina or some such, and I would start dishing it back to everyone as much as they gave it to me. Mr. Wilber got a kick out of it. He loved State, and he loved Jim Valvano. He's how my dad got to meet Jimmy V (my dad was a huge State fan and came from a family that is all NC State). V and Wilber were close friends, and Wilber stopped giving his rather considerable annual donation for a while because of Valvano being ran out of town.
However, I'll never forget the day after Roy's late night press conference when he came home. I went to eat dinner with my dad and Wilber came up to sit down and talk to us with that nasally voice. He looked at me and said "boy, you should be reallll prouddd of meeee. I was watching tv last night and I heard Roy Williams said he wanted some barbecue. Soooooo, I called Phil (Baddour, then AD Dickie Baddour's brother and prominent Goldsboro attorney) and told him to get in touch with Dickie and let him know I'd be bringing a catering truck up tomorrow. I figurreeedddd it's the least I could do since we've been kicking your butts the past few yearssssss. Turns out that old Roy has been coming by here every year toooooooo. They fly in and drive down to Newport to see his wife's family and sends old Wanda in here to get him some barbecue while he waits out back hoping no one sees himmmmm."
Wilber loved the Democratic Party and thought that his buddy Jim Hunt walked on water. He detested Jesse Helms and when Helms came by and ate one time, Wilber refused to walk out of his office to acknowledge Helms.
Sorry, folks, I got to reminiscing. I have been thinking about my dad a lot today and that got me going further. Then again, I'm not sorry. Those are damn good memories. Kiss my ass if you don't like them.

Re: Uncle Bud
Willis was in my fraternity pledge class, I was a freshman, he was at least a sophomore and probably a junior, had transferred from Louisburg, I believe. He was put in charge of the kitchen before the first semester ended and he really had a knack for it. We definitely ate good while he was there...

Re: Uncle Bud
I can't really remember. I was a freshman and had just met him, I wasn't in charge of any decisions about house operations, so I don't know if he was bullshitting or what, but I do know the food quality improved when he took over as kitchen manager...

Billionaire Elon Musk offered Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia, $1 billion under the condition that it changes its name to “Dickipedia.”
