Just got back from 10 days in Portugal. Beautiful and affordable country, but I will declare this…

Re: La Salle Explorers
Ummm.....
So, the wife and I are dropping our daughter off at U-of-A yesterday to start her second year. We get her all settled in (she is sharing an apartment this year) and we figure, lets head out and get her some food supplies for her fridge. We make haste for a Costco in Tuscon. Big fucking mistake.
This particular Costco in Tuscon sold out of water, paper products, milk, batteries, anything and everything that panicked desert people could get their hands on out of FEAR that the "Hurricane" was coming to wipe them out. There were less people at Disneyland yesterday than there were at the fucking Tuscon Costco. Now, we all know that nothing is going to happen to these people (these Arizona residents are over-reacting) but for most of them, they have no understanding or concept of what really happens with these weather conditions. So an over-reaction, is certainly understandable.
We are going to get rain and flooding in Phoenix. We expect to get 100% of a total year's worth of rain in one night. Ha, that is nothing. Death Valley California expects to get 280% of their annual rainfall in one night. If that is not flood conditions in the hottest place on the Earth, then nothing else is. Fortunately, no one really lives there so, flood it all you want.
Palm Springs appears to be ground zero for the path of this storm. Southwest Airlines has officially cancelled all flights in and out of San Diego California and Palm Springs. They have some media on the ground in Palm Springs. They are talking to residents (mostly old people living in trailers and double-wides) what they are doing to prepare for this. And largely, these people are
:shrug
because most of them, dare I say almost all of them, have never really experienced anything like this before. These are not people who grew up on the East Coast (used to 3 or 4 hurricanes a year) and settled in God's Waiting Room down near Disneyworld. These are people who grew up on the West Coast in the Desert and settled in an entirely different God's waiting room near an entirely different, Disney. They have no idea what to expect and there is some panic (like what was happening yesterday in Tuscon.)
Its just a Tropical Storm. But the reaction is the reaction.

Re: La Salle Explorers
Based on this one event in like a century they are definitely going to waste billions of dollars protecting California from hurricanes just like they did in New York that one time.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Sandy, 2012
I don't think it would have mattered (Obama was going to win re-election) but Christie's remarks pissing the President's ass did not help Mitt Romney in November of that year, that was for damn sure.

Except California is probably going to see hurricanes on a somewhat regular basis. We're moving into the correction stage of our population demographics. Time to shed some unnecessary pounds for the planet. Glad I've only got a few years left.

Re: La Salle Explorers
There are 195 countries. 2.1 birth per woman was traditionally known as the "break even" rate for human fertility but I think we can probably reduce that to about 2.05. Anyway....
60 of those 195 countries are "growing" (30 of those 60 multiplying far too fast)
Of the remaining 135 countries, 50 are just "breaking even" (breaking even = tiny bit of growth to a tiny bit of decline)
Of the remaining 85, the rest are experiencing significant negative population growth (and more than half are facing Biblically bad fertility rates, a new "Black Death")
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_c ... ility_rate
To mention this, gets you fired or cancelled by people who bitch about "shedding unnecessary pounds" since almost all of the 60 countries with all those "pounds" that are growing are perpetually 3rd world hellscapes populated by poor, uneducated, minorities

I like at the end for Sammy Davis Jr playing the Copa room at the Sands, you just need one name on the marquee
