I'm ready for "Nailin' Palin II: Sarah runs a Soul Train!"
During a press conference later, O'Mara was asked if he had any advice for Zimmerman, and he answered, "Pay me."

Will do, but I was kinda hoping for a leaked sex-tape. Or maybe that'll come out after the divorce.

doubt there's any footage of a tryst that occured 20+ years ago. it's not like you could set your cell phone on the night stand and get hd video and 5.1 surround sound back in the day like you can now. otoh, she was a reporter w/ access to video equipment and a "can do" attitude.

It just never ends
Alabama senator apologizes for 'aborigines' remark

http://news.yahoo.com/alabama-senator-a ... 02882.html
GARDENDALE, Ala. (AP) — A powerful Republican leader in the Alabama Senate apologized Tuesday for referring to blacks as "aborigines" on recordings played during a federal gambling corruption trial.

Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale said his comments "were careless and unnecessary" and he wants to set things right. Democrats said he ought to step down as chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, even though the Republican Caucus has said he would remain.

Beason was recorded making the remarks about gamblers in predominantly black Greene County. He made the recordings while helping the FBI investigate claims of lawmakers being bribed by gambling interests to pass a bill legalizing video poker games.

In one transcript, Beason and two other Republican legislators were talking about economic development in Greene County and the customers at one of its largest employers, Greenetrack casino in Eutaw.

"That's y'all's Indians," one Republican said.

"They're aborigines, but they're not Indians," Beason replied.

Reading a statement at the Gardendale Civic Center, Beason said, "Our purpose today is to say that I am very sorry and I apologize to anyone whose feelings were hurt by my comment." The Senate Republican Caucus days earlier let Beason remain the head of the rules committee, which decides which bills the Senate will consider.

State Democratic chairman Mark Kennedy said Beason's remarks were part of an embarrassing record that includes sponsoring Alabama's tough new law cracking down on illegal immigration. Kennedy also pointed to Beason saying during a GOP meeting that the party should "empty the clip" and do what it takes to control illegal immigration.

"The Republicans have a supermajority," Kennedy said. "And this is the man they choose to lead one of the most powerful committees in the Legislature."

Beason said Republican Caucus members had asked him how he planned to deal with his remarks, and the statement was his answer.

Earlier this year, Beason was the first prosecution witness in the federal trial of nine people accused of buying and selling votes for pro-gambling legislation. The jury acquitted two defendants and couldn't resolve all the charges against the other seven. They face a retrial in January.

During the investigation, Beason wore FBI recording equipment that captured him making the racially charged comment.

Defense attorneys latched on to his remarks during the trial, and, outside court, Kennedy called on Beason to resign. Republicans largely defended Beason, insisting he was not a racist.

Democratic legislators including Sen. Vivian Figures, who is black, criticized Republicans for allowing Beason to retain his Senate leadership role.

"Racism should have no place in the Alabama Senate. It is in the best interest of all Alabamians that he resign immediately," said Figures.

Beason said Tuesday he had not discussed his remarks with any minority members of the Legislature but would be happy to if they wanted to talk. He said he believes he can be an effective and important part of the Senate leadership in the three years remaining in his term.

A federal judge said she would rule by Wednesday whether the immigration law is constitutional.

It's not like his replacement on the Committee would be much more inclusive in his views of minorities...

If anything, it just maintains a view of the GOP brand. If the Party leaders don't care about that view, then I say they agree with it and everyone needs to understand that.

Like I said over at the Pen, the bigger problem is that you've got an astonishingly high number of politicians who just aren't very intelligent--or at the very least, they're not very savvy politcally speaking. You have to know how you'll come across if you say things like that. I mean, it shouldn't even be something that requires second thought. What's worse are the politicans or candidates who make statements about certain issues that are so lacking in knowledge that you wonder how their handlers don't check them on it well in advance (like some of Michelle Bachman's hilariously simple-minded statements).

Anyway, I know McCain is having many more sleepless nights for making that Sara Palin error. He's not a perfect politician but I think he was a quality candidate for the GOP.

Hey longish time guys...this might the place for any Apple-related rants since frankly, the company has an air of secular religion via consumer choice . I'm not going to change an Applyte's mind.

Yes, it's sad that Steve Jobs died young and yes the list of patents and designs he was involved in was impressive. I for one have only owned one Apple product (an iPod nano) and wasn't bowled over, but I recognize his influence over a broad swath of tech and "lifestyle" (not a fan of that word). However at the end of the day he was just another smart capitalist who opted to build stuff in sweatshops across the ocean from his customer base. He also opted for closed, heavily interlinked systems but has evaded the kind of scrutiny that Microsoft got in the '90s, because gosh, his stuff is so amazingly great, man!

or because unlike Microsoft, he didn't try and use his near monopoly in one area to create monopoly in another area.

In all fairness, sometimes the founder is at the whims of his board of directors.

I owned a first generation iPod, and that was the last Apple product personally owned. I did buy an iPad for my wife (and I love the product), but I only did that because I knew she would only use it for web content and reading books. I understand the Apple business model, but it's too proprietary for my tastes. So, I will never sign on for their products. Woot had a Xoom for $370 a week or so ago and I thought about buying it, but backed off. If I get a tablet, that'll probably be what I wind up with.

As far as the secular Jobsian regilious sect, there is an Apple Store right in front of my building. People have laid wreaths on the steps and Post It Notes on the wall. I was like "they've turned this place into a cheap version of the Wailing Wall." I respect Jobs brilliance. He was a tremendous American. However, I still don't fully comprehend the way the public has responded to his passing.
