How much? At a farm sale, I don't think it'd bring much over $1000, if that. Guess it depends on what condition it's in...

$1100 plus $50 delivery

there are about 2000 of 'em to choose from but this has good rubber all the way around, most of them are wore bald, plus it has two working headlamps and a rear lamp

guy put an electronic ignition on it and screwed it up, decided he was done with it

I noticed the carb leaked badly to when he started it

lots of stuff to do to it. I have to finish up some other things before I get to play with it.

Fun for hay rides although your health insurance premiums just went up. Homeowners too.

"$1100 plus $50 delivery"

That's a pretty good deal. Fuck it, a thousand bucks. For you it's worth that just to fuck around with it. But once you get it running good, you'll be able to do all kinds of shit with that thing. Lotsa power...

Make sure you convert it to 12v if it isn’t already.

If the distributor is on the front and not on the side, enjoy!

Many in my dad’s family were/are Ford tractor fanatics. My dad and I were going to find and restore an 8N (my grandfather had one when he died in 1958), but then dad fell ill.

It sounds silly or even stupid to most, but one of my dreams in life is to have a decent sized track of land and a fully restored 8N I use to cut the grass. It’s for sentimental reasons, but it would make me beyond happy because my dad would have loved it…

Ford was the major tractor manufacturer and leading innovator (such as the three point hitch) in the ag industry pre-1960, but when John Deere moved away from the two cylinder horizontal engines and went modern with the 10 series (1010, 2010, 3010 and 4010), they started to overtake Ford. Ford came out with the thousand series tractors in response (2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000), but they started rolling out 2-4 years after John Deere’s 10 (and then 20) series. In that time, Ford had lost a shit load of ground on Deere. The death knell for Ford’s ag dominance was the 6000 tractors, called the Commander. This was to have been Ford’s answer to John Deere’s 4010/20 models, but the 6000’s 6 cylinder engines were too powerful for the transmissions amongst other issues. Ford has to recall the 6000’s and all of them were/are known to be shitty tractors. Ford did come out with great six cylinder tractors in the late 60’s (8000 and 9000 — the 9000 was the 8000 with a turbo), but it was too late because Deere had cemented its industry dominance by that point.

10-15 years ago, New Holland (the successor to Ford tractors) launched the “8N Boomer.” It was a modern tractor styled to look like an 8N, complete with the red belly.

Also, the 8N is the most popular tractor of all time in terms of sales iirc.

Clearly DS is the Batman of Ford tractors…for now…

Which poster from way back in the day was often referred to as a tractor f*cker? Looks like you've taken his title.

I don't know that I am going to convert it to 12v. I know that is common, but it has a brand new 6v battery, and for now at least I want to keep it authentic.

Depending on how bad its screwed up, I may take that electronic ignition off and go back to the distributor.

For now, I'm going to take the battery off , put it on a trickle charger in the garage and move the tractor to under the deck. This fall I'll get around to playing with it.

After the John Deere walk behind mower project, the Honda 350TRX rebuild, the 98 Toyota T100 frame weld and the 1965 Honda Cub engine swap.
