Re: UCLA Bruins
That actually is what a lot of ancient greek philosophy is like. It was probably revolutionary at the time and certainly set the basic parameters for logical thinking that we take for granted now, but it was boring even as an undergraduate. And they still got a lot of shit way wrong. That's kind of how I feel about judeo-christianity as well, and I'm sure islam is just as childish and stupid. I've never really dipped much into hinduism, but I do like the fact that they've got a bunch of gods, like that elephant-headed fucker and the dancing one with like 8 arms....

I do kinda respect the psychedelic element in most religions, even christianity. I mean, somebody had to be tripping to come up with some of that shit. But at least with acid or shrooms, you wake up the next day and think "man, I was tripping my ass off, that was cool," not "that shit was real and I'm going to base the rest of my life on it and demand that everyone else does, too"..

I play golf with a guy who was tripping at one of the '88 Hampton shows and said he was hanging out with Jesus he was tripping so hard.

Re: UCLA Bruins
William Hurt dies
what I read about today is him raping and continually abusing Mary Matlin
I"ll never understand why women stay in abusive relationship. They had no kids, they weren't even married, she was an Oscar winner - so its not like she was broke and needed a sugar daddy. There is zero reason for her to put up with that shit, yet she did, for years.

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Re: UCLA Bruins
I'm watching Sunset Blvd. right now (for like the 10th time), the supporting actress, Nancy Olsen, the smart young screenwriter who William Holden was more naturally attracted to than Norma Desmond (and who, in real life, is still alive and will be 94 this year if she can make it til July 14) was married twice, the second time to one Alan Livingston, who actually was a screenwriter, but didn't have many credits. But one of them was as the creator of Bozo:

Re: UCLA Bruins
One of my favorite lines from Sunset Blvd has always been when Norma was losing it and saying "I'm a star!" and Holden, exasperated, says "Oh stop it Norma! You're 50 years old!" like it was understood that there's no way you could have a meaningful existence, much less be a star, when you were 50. But now that I think about it, he was probably right...

I would think that opinion has been more fortified than disabused as the years have crept past...
