hope everyone gets to spend time with the people they want to , and not so much with the people they don't want to
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

ND has wins over UK and UNC on its resume

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
I get switching to avoid open threes, but I don't get having your fucking traditional 5 switch in the closing minutes during a tight game...
I'm getting to the point of apathy with this team. I'm that annoyed with them.
In a shocking development, Carolina still struggles with help defense and transitioning / rotating to cover the perimeter out of help defense.
This is the third straight year in which Carolina has had an astounding lack of effort and focus. I get that there will be lapses, but this team was checked out mentally for 30+ minutes tonight. There was a 9-10 minute stretch in the second half when Carolina rallied from 13 down to take a 1 point lead. They played with more focus and intensity than they have at any point since making that run against Purdue in the HOF tournament. Carolina took the lead and then followed it up with stupid shots, stupid defensive play-calling, a stupid foul and getting beat by a team with more desire.
Roy made it through the NCAA cloud with a runner-up finish due to a fluke occurrence in '16, a fucking national title in '17, a '18 team that was legitimately in the mix to make a run until they ran cold and couldn't rebound against a much larger A&M team, a '19 team that was headed to the FF at the very least until half of the team contracted the flu, and this is to say nothing of the fact hat the '14 team was going to be a contender had Hairston and Bullock played as expected. Then, the 19-20 season happened. It was if Carolina basketball died almost instantly.
While watching an Elite 8 game last year with a close friend, I said I was worried we would become Indiana a few years after Roy retired. I was wrong. We are already there. Fuck almighty.
Next year is going to be like 19-20 or worse, 01-02 (8-20). Love is going to the league whether he is ready or not. Bacot is gone, and should go based on his play to date. Manek will be gone. Black will be gone (not a huge loss per se, but he grades out on defense), and I'm willing to bet Garcia declares as well. However, I will include Garcia in this future roster for shits and giggles. So, we're left without a true point guard (not that I think Love is a great or even true pg), and the following:
-Justin McKoy (6'8" F) (a scrub who is a UVa castoff)
-Anthony Harris (6'4" G) (has issues with injuries and is hardly the consistent scoring threat one needs at SG)
-RJ Davis (6'0" G) (a short sg who tries to play pg at times)
-Dawson Garcia (6'11" F) (has shooting range and defensive prowess against stretch bigs, an actual player...a rarity in this group)
-Puff Johnson (6'8" F) (seems to have more injuries than games played but he's Cam Johnson's little brother!)
-Kerwin Walton (6'5" G) (good shooter having a sophomore slump)
-Dontrez Styles (6'6" Wing) (he's raw and could grow into something, but he's far from being a contributor at this point. He's from Kinston though, and I will never count out a Kinston kid. There's a reason that small town has produced more NBA players per capita than any other place in the nation.)
That's seven role players, no real big man to bang down low and rebound, only one actual big man, no pg and no legit scoring threat. Well, maybe Hubert is going to bring in a stellar recruiting class to right the ship! Wait...what? Well, shit, we're fucked there too. Let's look a this stellar bunch:
-Seth Trimble (6'3" PG) (JP Tokoto's little brother. I hope his mom is still hot. At least we can look at her during the games. His offer list is middling at best. Carolina was the only "big time" school to offer, and I suspect there's a reason for that based on what I have seen over the past few years...)
-Jalen Washington (6'9" C) (Supposedly athletic kid who has seen his ranking slip once in-depth evaluation began again, and he is missing his senior season due to injury/surgery. Seems like he has some injury issues. I'm sure he will look great waving a towel on the bench to cheer on his teammates! Guess how many blue bloods offered him other than UNC? Yep. Zero.)
-Tyler Nickel (6'8" F) (A white kid from BFE Virginia near the mountains. I don't have a lot of hope here either.)
-Will Shaver (6'9" C) (A white kid from Birmingham, AL who reminds me of Sideshow Bob from the Simpsons whenever I have seen the kid's picture. No blue bloods offered. He looks like a "project" at best.)
Absent Davis finding an elite scorer, a good big man and a good pg in the portal, this team is destined to be fighting just to make the fucking NIT. It's going to be fucking awful.
Scheyer...JOHN FUCKING SCHEYER...is out recruiting Davis like it's nothing. If Davis doesn't get Jackson in the 2023 class, Hubert knows he is going to be fucked.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Carolina's biggest mistake is allowing the beloved coach to hand pick his successor. Why you guys do that I'll never know.
UNC could have gone out and hired a guy like Nate Oates who could have brought UNC into the current model of Basketball bringing in shooters instead of power forwards, and also..... UNC has to embrace NIL money -
I predict as early as next year schools will have a NIL marketing director position specifically for football and basketball and the sole purpose is to "monitor" (meaning maximize) the NIL earning potential of their athletes.
Recruiting in the future is going to be 99% based on earning potential at the school -and that is going to make some schools become powerhouses while others fade away. A coach will come into a recruits living room and not talk about winning a national championship, not talk about getting a degree , heck they might not even talk about next level, but the conversation will start and end with the NIL package they can put together for him while he attends the school
and unless the NCAA caps it, which I don't think they can, its going to exceed G-League money. You'll see kids staying in college because of earning potential as opposed to going to the g-league.
A kid like Coby White could earn $200K a year in NIL money at UNC if they market it right.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Depressingly outstanding summary, DS. Our Program is in a death spiral — and it was self-inflicted. Hey, eCat gets it. Roy knew his time had passed, so how does he “fix” the problem? He hand picks a do nothing assistant as his successor, just like Dean did. Instead of hiring a proven head coach, we just had to “keep it in the family”. Perhaps even more idiotic, Hubert mandates being a “Carolina guy” to be on his staff. Zero fresh ideas from Dean’s and Roy’s systems from 40 years ago.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
I wonder what the ratings for college basketball are so far this year? I guess it doesn't get kicked in until football is done. I'm not an ardent college fan, but I usually follow it and watch a few games on the weekend. I doubt I even do that this year.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
If I were Carolina's AD, I'll tell Brad Stevens, you're coming here in 2 years. Name your priice - and it will be over $7m a year to get him.
As much as people hate the bluebloods dominating any sport, and this is especially true in Basketball, you need the bluebloods to stay on top because they keep the sport relevant.
No one is going to give a fuck about years of dominance from Gonzaga and Baylor in the sport, fans will leave by the millions.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Can we hire you as our AD, eCat?
All kidding aside, there’s a large faction at Carolina that wants to be Stanford. Pristine academics and fund all the Olympic sports that no one cares about. All they do is siphon money out of the athletic department budget. We’ll be the last blueblood to embrace the new NIL World Order. All our puppet AD ever talks about is all sports at UNC sharing in NIL funding. GG Jackson and all other elite Basketball players will laugh at us. I’m not exactly sure what Mack Brown is doing to entice these 4 & 5 star recruits to come play for our traditionally shitty football program, but Hubert better follow suit. I wish Mack was our AD instead of the football coach.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Mack was poised to be hired as AD had Cunningham been hired by Florida in 2016…
ETA: at least according to the donors who have always fellated him, even after Mack went to Texas.
Mack could sell shit to a hog farmer

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
One other thing to eCat’s Brad Stevens coach-in-waiting suggestion. If you think Kentucky had a hard time getting rid of Tubby (who’d Coach rings around Hubert), imagine the fire and brimstone that will rain down if Carolina tries to fire Davis. Lifelong Heel/Walter Davis’ nephew/Self-made overachieving player/Top 5 NBA career 3-point shooter…and one more thing. Who’s going to have the balls to fire UNC’s first black head coach?
We’re doomed.
We’re doomed.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
The 8-20 type shit coming our way will help people get over that real damned quick...
This sounds horrible, but the thought has crossed my mind that the "family" convened, and they decided to take a hit because the next 2+ seasons are so bleak due to recruiting misses. This way, Davis takes the lumps, gets a big pay day before finally retiring and then we can hire a big name head coach who will have realistic expectations to cushion the first year or two.

Sad that the powers that be didn’t learn a damn thing from the first Transition Disaster orchestrated by Dean. You’re right about all hell breaking loose next year. That 8-20 Dohnut squad might’ve beaten next years misfits.

I'll be glad when he retires.
