I'm watching some cult B-movie (can't call this a classic) called Skidoo, it's from 1968 and they are trying to spoof drug and hippie culture, but it's got Jackie Gleason, Carol Channing and even Grouch Marx in it. Gleason's daughter is sitting in a car with some hippie who keeps "Can you dig it?" and shit like that (as if his long hair and beard weren't enough to let you know he's a hippy) and Gleason overhears him saying to his daughter "I think we can make it," Gleason, thinking the hippie is proposing to fuck his daughter, runs out and opens the car door and the hippie falls out, I guess he hits his head on the ground, b/c now he's passed out. The daughter (who is kinda hot) is saying "oh daddy, that's not what he meant by 'I think we can make it, baby'" and Gleason says "What is he, a faggot?" I don't know why, maybe b/c everything is so PC now, but I couldn't stop laughing at that simple quip...

Jackie Gleason accidently took LSD in prison (best line while tripping: "I see mathematics! I see it!"). Then him and his cellmates got the bright idea to dose the entire prison (including the warden, Burgess Meredith, and a visiting senator, minor Rat-Packer Peter Lawford) so they could escape, which they did...

Interesting book that just hit the market

Basically, Dr Hanson's point is that we no longer have autonomous citizens who could point at government and say, "No I don't need you and I can call out your horrible behavior" and at the same time point at the Uber-rich like Bezos, Gates, and Zuckerberg and say "I don't need you either and you can't hurt me no matter how rich you are." That is the point of the book. When we don't have enough people who are NOT in need of government and also NOT in fear of the wealthy that control government, then we don't have a citizenry.
