CHAPEL HILL - WCHL News has heard unconfirmed reports that NCAA investigators are back on campus this week, following up on recent developments surrounding the UNC football team.

Last month, WCHL reported that UNC’s African Studies Department had hired Carl Carey, Jr., as an adjunct professor to teach a course called Foundations of Black Education. Carey had taught the class previously, but the hire raised eyebrows because he’s also an active NFL agent, whose clients include former Tar Heel Julius Peppers.

In addition, Carey’s currently involved in a lawsuit against former Tar Heel Robert Quinn, who’d hired Carey as his agent before switching to another. Quinn is one of the players who lost his eligibility as a result of the year-long NCAA investigation; Carey’s lawsuit was active while he was teaching the summer course.



I doubt the Carey thing is all they look at. the McAdoo plagiarism lawsuit, the parking tickets, license plate/multiple cars, Butch's 216 number have all been exposed since the original LOI. if the ncaa ask for papers from all unc athletes that have taken that swahili class over the last five or 6 years...well just heh.

16 vacated wins, a $50,000 fine, nine scholarships over three years, no postseason ban. Nice try, and I suspect the NCAA will consider it meaningful, but I'd be absolutely shocked if the NCAA accepted that without imposing additional penalties.

what? actual punishment? not fucking likely. iow nothing unc has proposed hurts them in any way. I wish we had proposed this kind of punishment to the ncaa in "90. bet they get away with this shit too.

Nine scholarships over three years will hurt-- not only does it hurt depth with respect to numbers , but that penalty scares away higher-end recruits, so it affects quality of depth as well. I don't think it will hurt enough to satisfy the NCAA COI. I think seven or eight scholarships a year for three years would be closer to the mark, and there's probably going to be a bowl ban in there, too.
